📢 Are you rethinking resilience and finding new ways to navigate the disruption in the nonprofit sector? Across our network, the question isn’t just how civil society survives - it’s how we stay present for the communities who count on us.
In the latest episode of the AccountabiliTea podcast, colleagues from across the Lab – @Belovedchiweshe (@accountlabzw), Sadia Khan (@AccountLabSA), @DoussoubaKonate (@accountlabML), Narayan Adhikari (@accountlabnp), Fayyaz Yaseen (@accountlabpk), and Ana Laura Lozano (@AccountLabMx) reflect on the real impact of shifting aid: from layoffs and paused programs to reimagined partnerships and local solutions.
Doussouba captured the urgency: "What we need to address is: how can we be less dependent? How can we build the resilience of civil society actors so that we can continue to be present for the communities we serve, even in moments of crisis?"

#HappeningNow! “It is our responsibility to shape and determine how democracy is implemented in Zimbabwe. The Mutapa Investment Fund conversation allows us to better respond to the needs of the people where our economy is concerned.”
@Belovedchiweshe - Programs Manager & Deputy Chief of Party (NNAZ), Accountability Lab Zimbabwe
#MutapaInvestmentFund
Peter Rundell weighs in and says that The Mutapa Investment fund is a body corporate under the statutory authority of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act. It’s is a public entity and must have clear and publicly disclosed policies and procedures in accordance with the Act.
“We have the Fund and it is here to stay, so we must shift our focus and strategise on the way forward . We need dialogue with the State around the weaknesses and gaps. We must push for reforms through Parliament’s oversight role. We must ensure that the youth are part of these investment conversations at all costs.”
#HappeningNow
The plenary discussion is underway and the three discussants are unpacking the Mutapa Investment Fund’s strengths and weaknesses.
Esther Mapungwana says, “We have poor prioritization where the Mutapa Investment Fund is concerned. We cannot save before we have met our fiscal obligations as a nation. We need to begin by closing pre-existing gaps in health and illicit financial flows before we legitimise a sovereign wealth fund.”
#SovereignWealthFund
“As we work to solve the challenges of tomorrow, we must also seek to nourish and meet the needs of those existing today. Sovereign Wealth Funds can serve to benefit present challenges and also sustain the development of future generations when they are managed transparently and with full accountability in mind.”
Reflections from AL Chief of Party @Makil on the Mutapa Investment Fund.
“The issue of inclusion stills stands unaddressed in the composition of the Fund and its management. We cannot ignore the diversity and the marginalities that exist in Zimbabwe’s populace. As we plan for future generations through macro-economic vehicles such as the Fund, it must be able to work for the people while working to address the needs of marginalised groups.”
