The Expanded Hobyo administration block and equipped offices launched today by the Galmudug officials Minister Naima Atosh & DG Warsame Farah will enhance service delivery and strengthen governance since Local administration will now work from their offices.

Expansion of Hobyo Hospital with a maternity wing, Watertank & perimeter wall will no doubt contribute to good service delivery, secure the facility & its land, enhance patient privacy, reduce child & maternal deaths. Mothers will no longer seek maternity services outside Hobyo.

A community initiative is seeing the graveling of the Hobyo-Galkaio Road, & 79 KMs is now completed. Its slogan is “Hal ku tag Galkaio” (1 Camel to Galkaio)- meaning contribute a camel. Apart frm contributing, the nomads continuously pour food & other gifts to the road workers!

Thank you @MohammedYarrow for bringing to the light this menace that threatens the very existence of Hobyo, an ancient coastal city in Somalia's Mudug region. We must fight the sand dunes to save the city from extinction. Any initiative to this effect is much welcome.

To the people of Hobyo town, their biggest threat is not Al-Shabaab, but Sand Dunes! It encroaches on homes, schools & even blocks roads. It overtook some people’s homes and displaced them! Grateful if you share with me any past initiatives that were successful in stopping dunes
