It’s going to be hard to play Destiny 2 going forward.
I’m still going to, I love this game to death. I’ll play it for as long as possible.
But knowing there won’t be anyone on the other end… no one in the background supporting it.
That’s going to be rough to comprehend.

@cometspacederg You can select them in fireteam finder. Just create a listing, don't accept any applications to join and in a few seconds it will let you launch it on your own.
This is the same feeling I've had since Tuesday. So appreciative that the team was able to add SO MUCH more to the story. It's chilling to get a glimpse into what was ahead, that will now be lost to time.
I love that the story has been told at all, but there were clearly greater plans. Magnificent, majestic plans.
But all that potential has been squandered.
The devs all deserved better than this. They deserved to tell this story.
Forgive my tears…this one was tough. Thank you to every Warlock + Guardian who kept this legendary game alive for these past wonderful years. It has been an honor and privilege to have taken this journey with you. See you starside… 💙

...that is finally able to deliver the way they've always wanted to! The shackles of corporate greed and future-state restrictions are gone and all that's left is the love of Destiny that Bungie and the community share. What a monumental send-off 💙
The last 2 days of #Destiny2 comms have been spot on. If the dedication and passion of this team was ever put into question, that is certainly squashed today. They have always been listenting - and my guess is that everything we're seeing come June 9 is a result of a team ...

Thank you to everyone who has reached out. Thank you to everyone who’s been sharing what Destiny means to them.
Passing these along to the team as they roll in. Photos, videos, art pieces, everything.
Your stories mean the world to all of us. Thank you.
I've spent a lot of years playing the same game. It always kept me coming back for a number of reasons, but I agree that Final Shape was the logical conclusion of a decade+ storyline. I'm sad to see it go, but looking forward to what appears to be a very solid June update 💔

For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2.
As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio.
Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to.
We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us.
From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.
Over the weekend, a player posted a video of them taking advantage of a map issue and going out of bounds to gain access into the Compiler room to ambush a team after they finished completing the encounter.
First off, we will have this issue fixed before Cryo Archive becomes available again.
In the past, we have not taken action against players going out of bounds, but due to this case heavily affecting other players negatively, we'll be reviewing our policies and sharing more details soon. While we don't want to punish players for bugs that they run into by accident, we will communicate more clearly the line that players should not cross when it comes to using these sorts of bugs that could be griefing others.
We will be reaching out to the affected players to grant them compensation for having their successful run interrupted by this issue.
Sony is a 122 Billion dollar company. With some of the most advanced tech in the world.
They have a Data Platform that can process up to 760 terabyte's from over 500 types of datasets to track engagement metrics, including user retention.

SO when Sony's CFO says they're happy with player retention and some dork on twitter decides to post Steam Charts and go, "NU UH LOOOOOOK!" Remember that Sony uses a fucking Data Platform that can process up to 760 terabyte's from over 500 types of datasets to track engagement metrics, including user retention.
Also STORY TIME. in 2008 Sony took a 2 Billion dollar loss because they had to subsidize the PS3 in hopes of long term market revenue. It nearly crippled their gaming division, but they wanted to win the Format war against Toshibas HD-DVD. Sony didn't even deem the PS3 a success until 3-4 years after its launch. But it paid off. Blue Ray became the Industry standard and the PS3 is regarded as a success despite its launch, selling more units than the Xbox 360 even though the 360 was 200-300 dollars less. Pixel Playback has a great video going over this.

My point is that Sony is no stranger when it comes to taking risk in order to better their future. It's Kind of the thing they do. Its also kind of the thing Bungie does.
Sony's Primary reason, for buying Bungie was because they Saw Destiny as Best in Class for Live service games and they wanted that level of expertise.

yes the 768 million dollar impairment loss is scary for anyone who is a Bungie fan and wants their games to succeed. I'd also imagine its terrifying for the People working at Bungie considering how unstable job stability seems to be in the industry and really hope everyone working at Bungie is doing okay.
However I do not believe Sony is looking as much to the short term success. Which is why in the Earnings report they highlight that Marathon overall has a high rating as a game and that retention is also really good. They're probably hoping to see Marathons player base slowly grow over time because the game is genuinely really fucking fun and if you invest into it and really learn and play it I consider it to be one of the best feeling FPS games out.
That's why I believe Marathon isn't going anywhere (for right now). Sony seems to be more focused on its long term success and we really wont know the future of Marathon, Destiny or Bungie for that matter for another 1-3 years.
TLDR: No U
