@blakecallens If I can find a "influencer" that identifies as a Catholic being smarmy and a protestant Church leader being gracious will that be an equally weighted analogy and cancel yours out?
@jbarro I bet you there were similar feelings about collecting data via search engine instead of a library in the past. If it's done right you can't tell the difference now. Soon it will be the same with AI.
@conor64 A lot of americans are struggling for a sense of place or existential meaning as a culture currently. Race essentialism, cultural identity, etc. these are all answers, this is just another version. I matter because of this heritage.
@MrInBetween4@ggreenwald@realDonaldTrump There is a lot of circumstantial evidence that we funded/supported his group for years in their operations in this area. We've operated pragmatically like that forever. My enemy's enemy is my friend.
@anglo_yank@Osborne75603086@SourCookie2112 @mikitaisbased You are conflating us having a dominantly spoken language, English, and whether it is needed to speak English to be a "full American".
@anglo_yank@Osborne75603086@SourCookie2112 @mikitaisbased The thing that makes America so different than all those other countries is we have never been a nation aligned under one religion, ethnicity or language. It was very unusual at the founding.
@anglo_yank@Osborne75603086@SourCookie2112 @mikitaisbased No, that's a pretty large logic leap and what I was arguing. 33% of Pennsylvania was German at the founding of the nation, enough that they printed the Constitution in German. These German speaking people were citizens and were taxed and had the same rights.
@anglo_yank@Osborne75603086@SourCookie2112 @mikitaisbased What is a truly full member? I'm not sure it's someone you could prove. You'll just throw out any example I give as not truly full. Communities have functioned in the US for multiple generations not speaking English. It certainly helps to speak English though.
@anglo_yank@Osborne75603086@SourCookie2112 @mikitaisbased People have been part of the American nation for multiple generations not speaking English. I'm Pennsylvania, New Mexico and probably numerous other states.
@anglo_yank@SourCookie2112 @mikitaisbased @Osborne75603086 Well it's just very odd to print the constitution in German for your German speaking population, not make English the official language of you new country and at the same time believe what you're attesting about English.
@anglo_yank@SourCookie2112 @mikitaisbased @Osborne75603086 So they actually printed the Constitution in German and Dutch for PA and NY populations. 34% of Pennsylvania was German origin at the time. https://t.co/IgKjVrzp7h
@anglo_yank@SourCookie2112 @mikitaisbased @Osborne75603086 Yes, this is true. Kutztown University was established to spread English up in a very German party of Pennsylvania. But that didn't eradicate or eliminate it. It was actually WW2 which did. People got scared to speak or cause of the Reich.
