“We are captives,
even if our wheat grows
over the fences
and swallows rise
from our broken chains.
We are captives of
what we love,
what we desire, and
what we are.”

Islamabad must extricate itself from this quagmire before it deepens, and leave KP’s governance to those its people have elected to oversee it..https://t.co/BwngKbVlah
Pakistan’s political and security managers have not learnt any lesson from history and once again imposed emergency/ governor rule in #KPK, by invoking brutal colonial era power and has thrown an insurgency prone region at edge of anarchy.

Pakistan’s most troubling comparison with India and Bangladesh may not be GDP. It is poverty.
On the World Bank’s $3-a-day extreme-poverty line, the latest available estimates are roughly:
Pakistan: 23%
Bangladesh: 5.9%
India: 5.3%
That means nearly one in four Pakistanis—around 58 million people—lives in extreme poverty. Pakistan’s rate is now about four times that of India or Bangladesh.
These countries began their development journeys with many of the same challenges. Yet India and Bangladesh have reduced extreme poverty far more rapidly, while Pakistan has fallen behind.
That should force a fundamental rethink of what we call economic success.
Fiscal targets, reserves and programme reviews matter. But the ultimate test of economic policy is whether it delivers investment, productivity, jobs, rising incomes and better lives.
Pakistan does not merely need another stabilisation programme.
It needs a development strategy capable of lifting millions out of poverty—and keeping them out.
Economic policy must ultimately be judged by prosperity delivered, not adjustments completed.

Pakistan’s 'extended' Fatah-4 missile test sends deterrence signal
Pakistan has tested an “extended” version of the Fatah-4 missile, months after reporting a successful test of the “baseline” version.
The ground-launched cruise missile is equipped with advanced avionics and can engage targets at extended ranges with high precision, according to the Pakistan Army's press service, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The Fatah missile family series has enhanced Pakistan’s conventional defense capability and given new options to strategic planners, increasing operational flexibility in deterring the enemy at the time of crisis, Tahir Nazir, a geopolitical and security analyst, says.
With enhanced range, lethality, and durability, it can strike the enemy’s heartland from a mobile launcher and can also be used in interdiction missions and to suppress the enemy’s air defenses, he emphasizes.
