I know there are people who simply unable to work on terminals... but this take is the worst.
What people like him do not get is - terminal, or individual command usage (be that python, az, aws, git or whatever that is) is the underlying unit where individual action is done.
I don't get the hype around CLI coding tools like Claude Code.
Human-computer interaction evolved past the terminal 30 years ago for a reason. UIs won.
Why are we regressing?
Everyone who reads Chiang's piece should, as a counterpoint, read qntm's short story Lena, which imagines the first human consciousness to run in simulation on disk. The specific exercise is to reflect on how one would react to the following events if they were to transpire:
@sreeramkannan@DimitrisPapail Equally disappointing is that even the weaker hope of cognitive science—by building (empirical, or any) intelligence, we can have a good understanding of natural intelligence—did not take off.
@sreeramkannan@DimitrisPapail Yeah, mathematical theory of intelligence...
My take is that this is the "greater" bitter lesson of ML as a field.
Intelligence is empirical, and trying to have a mathematical or cognitive theory generally does not help building it.
I discovered a new joy in life. Don't ask Codex to do stuff. Ask Codex to ask Codex to do stuff. Rejoice as you watch it handling and correcting all the dumb shit that it does and that you'd be dealing with otherwise
It is not so easy to describe, but for me -- doing something without agent presence is now something close to doing architecural designs without pen and paper, or keyboard and prototype notebook.
It is very interesting thag I am having a complete opposite effect. I am having far more clarity and technical depth than before ai agent coding.
On my side, I find a constant sparring partner to argue and counter argue architectural choices, really enhanced my cognitive depth.
Something happens to my brain after agentic coding that I can’t describe. It’s like cognitive offloading which folks have already written about, but even more. It feels like I can’t think through problems anymore. Like a fog. Using agentic but losing my hard-won agency.
You can call them naive, but they headed to Israel, thinking the country is one of the Western democracies where you can peacefully demonstrate.
The impact of the video: No, it is not.
I am not sure Israelis understand what this means to third parties like South Korea.
Darn. So this was not fake, but an official video released from Israeli government. I am not sure Israel understand the impact of this.
-- South Korean government now considering following ICC arrest warrants against Israelis, previously it always ignored.
Far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir released a video showing detained participants of the intercepted Gaza-bound flotilla being bound and dragged in Israel's Ashdod Port, writing, "That's how we welcome the terror supporters. Welcome to Israel."

@CalumDouglas1@JClarkeatDell AI is just a new form of computers. Fine that you don't use computers. Sure, there are slops and hypes.
But don't underestimate the capabilities of the new computers.
@amritwt people mistook their personal preferences for some divine taste they were bestowing on those below them
everything they cared about didn't matter
