@Shadoff_d@Alteracious Here's my notes from over a decade ago, unfortunately it's all bitbanged using the I/O register at $1000. No warranty on any of this, but I remember they matched what @furrtek found when the chip was melted.
The Guardian Legend (Compile)
An unexpected combination of mechanics which reminded me there's still cool things I haven't seen, and to stop being such a massive snob.
Oh no, it's 2026! So what was my "most important" media of 2025? As with all the last times, the only requirement is to have changed my mind about something.
Urusei Yatsura : Beautiful Dreamer (Mamoru Oshii)
Made me rethink what works when presenting dreams and imaginary worlds, and was a helpful nudge for my own projects.
Sarazanmai (Kunihiko Ikuhara)
I had zero interest in watching this, then ended up floored by how densely the art direction integrates with its themes without getting overwhelming. It's still a lot of work though.
A Prayer for Owen Meany (John Irving)
DIALOGUE WRITTEN IN ALL CAPITALS TENDS TO FEEL LIKE A GIMMICK, BUT HERE IT WAS BOTH ENDEARING AND PART OF THE NARRATIVE.
Defenders of Oasis (Sega)
I didn't like trudging through this one, but some of its design choices were really interesting. Once the Genie learns "Hawltart" you're able to adventure indefinitely by strategically withdrawing him from battles.
It's 2024 and time again for my yearly thing. So what was my "most important" media from 2023? As always, the only criteria is having changed my mind about something.
Kaiba (Masaaki Yuasa)
The way memories were presented as physical, tangible, interactive things here felt very unique and well integrated with the story. I really enjoyed how this was used for character studies in the middle episodes.
Finally got around to uploading the design for my ProSMS Adapters, use Master System or Genesis controllers on your 7800 ProSystem! https://t.co/oSkzw4hLzI
