Win of the day:
Launched the MVP of my event scheduling app!
Lot of work still to be done, but one of my mentors told me the value of a 'happy pass', and so I'm super excited to present exactly that ๐

@hussien_coding This is lifesaving advice imo especially when starting out. I find its only embarrassing in the moment, but when you effectively fix the problem that the question was related to, the judgment stops pretty quickly๐
Today was a great day in my developer journey. Got a chance to successfully troubleshoot a config error in a required .NET microservice, which ONLY showed up on M1 Macs! Documented my solution for the next round of M1 developers and it felt good ๐ช๐ฝ
I had a coffee chat again with @taimur_coding after getting his first after job after his bootcamp.
He's a great of example of someone who worked countless nights after his old day job to get into the industry and then landed a great role.
Very proud of him
@brianbud_ That was my situation too! But in my opinion just bc I didnโt have a software job didnโt mean I was not a developer, so the headline is well-earned. Plus I think from a companyโs POV, they would likely be hesitant if a candidate only partially considered themselves a dev!
My daily life as a software engineer:
11AM: โIโm not smart enough for this and Iโll be exposed as a fraudโ
3PM: โI am the smartest most genius person to cross this earth everโ
4:59PM: โIs that a bugโฆ?โ
And the cycle repeats ๐ฅฒ
8 years as a software engineer and I still run away from all tasks that have anything to do with dates and timezones.
Mentorship lesson 101: Run away from dates ๐
I used to think being a Software Engineer meant being able to code-out any problem on the spot, but I now understand that Iโm really being paid to think, research, and figure out how to solve the problem in the best way possible. The coding part from there is pretty simple.
After recently starting as a Fulltime Software Eng, Iโve become obsessed with well-structured codebases. Itโs so satisfying when Iโm able to quickly identify how things work and implement an enhancement. Definitely has reinforced the importance of planning before writing๐ค
After taking a break from tweeting on Tech Twitter, Iโm excited to start it back up again.
Consistency is key but breaks are definitely necessary to stay sane ๐
