In a democracy it is healthy that different viewpoints are expressed honestly and robustly. The mantra of 'unity' is often employed by closet authoritarians to try and suppress the articulation of beliefs that they find inconvenient. Talking of free speech, are you not the former minister who wanted to introduce a law that would have criminalied parents and psychotherapists who would have counselled children/clients not to go through with sex change procedures (not that anyone can, in reality, of course actually change sex) under the guise of banning 'LGBT conversion therapy'? Let's get this right: you claim to believe in free speech yet also argue that the Oxford Union should ban anyone you so happen to disapprove of as this may cause local inconvenience. So, if, say, the OU invited someone you approved of but whom a group of thugs wanted blocked from speaking you presumably, rightly, would argue that there should be no "hecklers' veto" and the meeting should proceed. In reality, you're a two-faced, "heads I win, tails you lose" authoritarian who doesn't have the courage, integrity to own your illiberal politics.
