seriously how much more evidence do people need that this isn’t for the kids. It’s so freaking blatant kids are being used to implement surveillance and censorship.
This is how so many data-driven companies screw their users and shoot themselves in the foot. My guess is every time Uber runs a 2-week A/B test where they give some users accurate time estimates and other users deceptive time estimates, the deceptive arm wins — many people probably compare Uber and Lyft time estimates and pick one, so lying about wait times increases the number of trips booked in the short run. But what the data won't show is that people gradually catch on to the deception over a period of months or years and lose trust in the company or the sector altogether, and use the app less or quit entirely.
As a soft westerner, I must admit that I have a hard time watching the drone videos killing Russian invaders. Such tactics are necessary and it is good the Ukraine is deploying them. That being said, there is a helplessness to them that has always left me feeling that a combatant’s ability to surrender in the face of certain death is being removed.
I am glad to see videos like this, not only because it means that surrender for those who do not wish to fight is an option, but as an example of the humanity of Ukrainians. Knowing only a fraction of the pain they have suffered at the hands of Russians, I could not and would not ask them to show such grace, yet they do so. They show restraint, a respect for life, and civility that they never could expect from their enemy in this war.
My support for Ukraine will never waiver, and I feel as though Ukraine and its people continue to validate that support.
🦔Leonardo is a $17 billion defense contractor. It built a system called SignalTrace that clips sensors onto the license plate readers already mounted on street poles, overpasses, and police cars across the US. Every time you drive past one, the sensor grabs the Bluetooth and WiFi signals from every device in your car, ties them to your plate, and logs the time and location. Your phone, your AirPods, your kid's tablet. All of it goes into the same file. A friend rides with you once and their devices are linked to your plate.
Leonardo has sold this to police departments since at least 2023. There is no federal law covering it, no opt-out, and no warrant requirement.
My Take
None of the pieces here are new. Your phone has always broadcast a signal. The license plate cameras were already there. Leonardo just connected them and found a buyer. Nobody had to break a law or build anything from scratch. They assembled a surveillance system from parts already in place and sold it before anyone noticed.
Most people found out this week from a 404 Media investigation. Leonardo received the patent in 2024. By the time you hear about something like this, the deals are done and the sensors are on the poles. That's how it works now.

This is what the UK spyware proposal means.
There must be government spyware on every mobile device. It shall watch everything that happens, including always watching the screen, looking for things the government disapproves of.
When anything is flagged by the software as something the government doesn't like, the software must block it from being sent or displayed (in realtime).
The user of the device must not be able to shut this watching and blocking off. The only way to shut it off would be to ask the government or its proxies to do so for you, at their discretion.
Therefore the whole device must be locked down. Administrator rights and the decision of what software or operating system to run or not to run must be taken from the owner/user and handed to the government and its proxies.
Apple and Google are themselves working hard to lock down the devices they are involved in to shut out competition and establish a duopoly.
The UK government says it is "working closely" with Apple and Google and currently they synchronise and coordinate their communication on this subject.
The UK government is now proposing to mandate what would otherwise be illegal anti-competitive practices.

DELETED, BUT NOT ERASED: RECOVERING MESSAGES FROM NOTIFICATION LOGS
The FBI was reportedly able to recover copies of incoming Signal messages from a suspect's iPhone even after the Signal application had been removed few months ago. This was achieved through forensic analysis of the device's push notification database, where portions of message content had been stored.
So I decided to use that same methodology and it worked.
Importantly, this is not a failure of Signal's end-to-end encryption. Rather, it highlights a well-known mobile forensics artifact issue.
iOS uses write-optimized storage, meaning deleted data may persist on a device until it is eventually overwritten.
When a message is delivered to an iPhone via Apple's Push Notification Service (APNs), iOS may generate and display a notification preview, depending on the device's notification settings. These previews can be temporarily stored within system-level databases and notification logs.
As a result, even if the messaging application is deleted, residual artifacts containing portions of message content may remain on the device. Some digital forensic tools can identify and recover these artifacts during an examination, providing investigators with valuable evidence that may no longer be accessible through the application itself.
The underlying issue is that the iPhone caches items that appear as notifications on your lock screen.
I hope Apple will limit the time that messages are cached to minimize risk to users.
Turn off or disable notifications for secure messaging apps or other apps you think are sensitive.

We Are Living in the Dumbest Timeline
Donald Trump just posted a photo of a wind turbine next to birds and captioned it “Killing birds by the millions!”
He posted this without irony.
For every single bird killed by a wind turbine, nuclear and fossil fuel plants kill 2,118 birds. Coal alone kills roughly 7.9 million birds a year in the United States. Wind turbines? Between 140,000 and 328,000. That is not a defence of wind turbines.
We are living in genuinely, historically stupid times. Only rivalled, frankly, by the medieval peasants who blamed the Black Death on cats and promptly killed all the cats, which meant the rats multiplied, which meant more plague.
At least the peasants had the excuse of having no access to information whatsoever.
Trump has the internet. He chose this.
The people heading west buried their dead right in the trail, then drove the wagons over the graves to pack the dirt flat. It hid the body from scavengers and grave robbers. That video makes the trip west look like a dream. For a lot of them, it was the last thing they ever did.
The land really was almost free. A law from 1862 let you claim 160 acres, about the size of 90 soccer fields, as long as you lived on it for five years, built a house, and planted crops. Then you paid a small fee and it was yours. The catch was surviving those five years. Only about four in ten people who started ever got the deed. The rest gave up and walked off, worn down by drought, loneliness, poor soil, and grasshopper swarms that stripped whole fields bare.
Just reaching the land could kill you. About 350,000 people set out on the trails west, and somewhere between 20,000 and 30,000 died on the way. Nearly one in ten. Cholera did most of the killing, and it was fast. You could feel fine in the morning and be gone by night: stomach cramps, then hours of vomiting until your body dried out and your skin turned blue. One man who crossed in 1852 said the road was almost a solid graveyard for four hundred miles. Out of the ten people in his own family who set out, five reached the end.
Say you survived all that and built the house. Life expectancy back then was about 40. That sounds like nobody got old, but it is misleading. The number was low for one reason: children kept dying, between 25 and 40 percent of them before they turned five. All those small graves pulled the average down. Make it past childhood, though, and many lived into their sixties.
Having those kids was dangerous on its own. Around 1900, about 1 in 120 births killed the mother, usually from an infection nobody knew how to stop. Women went through it seven or eight times each, so the danger came back with every pregnancy. The nearest doctor could be days away. That death rate has since dropped by about 99 percent.
The view in that video is the part they got right. The tall grass, the gold light on hills you could fence off and keep. People really did chase that, and a lot of them paid for it with their lives. The scenery was free. Staying alive on it was the expensive part.
‼️🚨 BREAKING: Sony PlayStation's age-verification partner Yoti is reporting GrapheneOS users to authorities for using GrapheneOS, due to "past security concerns."
"Due to past security concerns, Yoti automatically flags multiple verification attempts and any devices running GrapheneOS. These instances are automatically reported to both the authorities and our security team."
#Solarenergie #Energiewende #Photovoltaik https://t.co/zmEgEjAY1Z
18 Festnahmen.
Und der Mann, der das befohlen hat? Lebt prächtig. In Moskau.
Das Gas: deutsches Know-how.
