🌿 World Environment Day 2026 at Howrah Division, Eastern Railway 🌿

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, Howrah Division, Eastern Railway organized an awareness programme at the New DRM Building on 5th June 2026.

The event commenced with an Environment Day pledge administered by DRM/Howrah, Shri Vishal Kapoor, in the presence of officers and staff members. The pledge reaffirmed the collective commitment of railway personnel towards environmental protection, sustainable living, and the preservation of natural resources for future generations.

We have successfully bridged the 62-metre viaduct gap at Chingrighata – a critical link on Kolkata Metro’s Orange Line.

TMC kept it stalled for years by refusing basic traffic diversion permissions. Even after the High Court and Supreme Court cleared the project, the work still never moved.

The obstruction ended. With night traffic blockades over two successive weekends, the work is complete, and the busy crossing road reopened 3 hours ahead of schedule.

33761 SDAH - RHA AC EMU via BNJ is having commercial stoppages at Bamangachi & Gopalnagar.. But None of the Railway Apps including the onboard PIS does not show any scheduled stoppages which is misleading passengers !

A beautiful photo of the WCM-5 electric locomotive at Pune, which is hauling the Deccan Express, captured around 1978! The WCM-5 is a historic class of 1.5 kV DC electric locomotives, notable as the first indigenously developed and manufactured electric engine in India.

Produced by Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) in 1961 and designed by RDSO, 21 units were built, with the first named "Lokmanya" by PM Jawaharlal Nehru. They primarily served the Central Railway's Bombay area for 40 years before being phased out in the early 2000s.

These 1500V DC locomotives were Broad Gauge (W), Continuous Current (C), Mixed Traffic (M) engines, specifically designed for both passenger and freight services. 21 units were manufactured between 1961 and 1963. They were withdrawn in the early 2000s due to the transition from DC to 25 kV AC traction. #IndianRailways #History
