After much prayer, reflection, and consultation with my agent (AKA my wife).
I have officially entered the NCAA Assistant/Associate Coaching Portal.
✔️ Retired MLB Catcher ✔️ College All-American ✔️ Player Development Experience ✔️ Broadcasting Experience ✔️ USA Baseball Experience ✔️ Still catches bullpens ✔️ Avid sunflower seed consumer ✔️ Elite fungo BP & shagging potential
•Years of eligibility remaining: Plenty.
•40-yard dash: Declining.
•Wisdom: Increasing.
•Ability to help young men become better players and better people:
At an all-time high.
•Not looking for a title.
•Not chasing a uniform.
✔️Answering a calling that's been on my heart for a long time.
If you're building a program centered around culture, accountability, player development, relationships, toughness, and preparing young men for life— let's talk.
Until then, I'll be in the portal...
Watching film. Drinking coffee. Talking baseball. Cage Dwelling!
You get 1 spring Little League season per year. You can play tournaments every weekend.
Missing your rec league games to play in a travel ball tournament is not legit. It's also not safe from an arm care perspective.
The travel ball player is probably a top Little League player, so it really hurts the team. Dont put your child that situation. And dont do that to the team.
It puts the Little League head coach in an awful position.
What are they supposed to tell the team?
"Oh yea, little Bobby is playing on his travel team this weekend instead of with us..."
And then that travel ball player is expected to just be slotted back into the lineup? That's not right. I bet if the LL coach sits the player for skipping out on the team, those parents complain. In fact, I literally just had this happen with a good friend... which prompted this reflection.
Play Little League or Travel Ball.
And if you do both, prioritize the rec league with the team who has worked together for months with the goal of playing meaningful baseball at the end of the season. Show up for the volunteer coach who probably selected you as one of their top picks to carry and lead the team.
And just wait a few more weeks and play in as many weekend tournaments as your heart desires. ⚾💪🔥

The problem with travel baseball now?
Anybody can start a team.
Get 12 kids, order uniforms, enter tournaments, call yourself “elite”…
and suddenly you’re a travel organization.
That doesn’t mean the development is good, arms are handled right, or kids are actually improving.

I can confirm the new Head MBB Coach at Geneva College is @GCPioneerHoops Assistant @DJDamazo.
DJ is a Geneva grad, and started 2 years for the Golden Tornadoes.
Geneva is believed to be the first college with a basketball team. The school adopted the sport in 1892, just weeks after its invention by Dr. James Naismith at Springfield College.
Best of luck to DJ, who is truly one of the great people in #d3hoops.

People are blaming this one on Kelly? Seriously? Team left 10 guys on base. And committed 4 errors. And allowed a run on a HBP. And a WP. What are we doing here?
For Healthcare Appreciation Night at Dodger Stadium, Alex and Kayla Vesia invited the staff that helped them through the passing of their newborn daughter Sterling in October
Alex says he was about to cry after striking out all three batters he faced to close out the win
Guys still looking for a home this fall? The Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh is looking for a few big bats next year. Looking for 100+ ABs? CCAC is your place. Very competitive league! Where you at? 👀

And Skenes, a 23-year-old who carries himself like a 10-year veteran, can't get past the way Griffin conducts himself as a teenager.
"Goes to church every Sunday, doesn't cuss, doesn't do any of that stuff, married at 19," Skenes said. "It's not common, but nothing about him is common. Everything screams uncommon. And if you want to be uncommon, you want to do uncommon things, it starts with thinking uncommon -- and he does that."
