Today, my aunt, Aleema Khan, has been abducted by police in Lahore. Our family has been told nothing about where she has been taken. Her family and lawyers cannot reach her.

This is the behaviour of a fascist government - abducting people, terrorising families and trampling human rights, due process and the rule of law while pretending to stand for democracy.

First they imprisoned my father. Now they are coming after his family.

We demand immediate access to her for her family and lawyers, full disclosure of where she is being held, and her immediate release.

The world cannot keep looking away from what is happening in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s government is defying its own Supreme Court and keeping Imran Khan behind bars on politically motivated charges.

After years of imprisonment, prolonged isolation, and growing concerns about his health, Khan was ordered by Pakistan’s Supreme Court to receive independent medical treatment with access to his personal physician. Instead, authorities returned him to prison without carrying out the ordered care.

But this goes beyond medical treatment. Imran Khan should not be imprisoned in the first place.

Amnesty International has called his imprisonment “unlawful and politically motivated,” and the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has called for his immediate release.

Pakistan must respect the rule of law, end his isolation, allow independent medical care, and FREE IMRAN KHAN.

Prime Minister @andyburnham and Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband : how much longer will Britain remain silent?

For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir,  which according to the UN,  amounts to torture and which  is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health. 

He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors.

The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture.

He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years.

Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive  medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.

Yet those orders are being defied.

This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency.

He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and  include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university.

His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls. 

I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not  intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father. 

@FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court;  restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights.

Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient.
This an appeal to the new Burnham government  to please now do the right thing.

کل کے ہسپتال ٹرانسفر ساگا میں مجھے کچھ ایسا نہی نظر آتا جس سے تحریک انصاف کے لوگوں کا مایوس ہونا چاہیے- میں اپنی بات کی وضاحت کر دیتا ہوں :

کل کے حکومتی ڈرامے کے دوران عمران خان کی ایک بہن کی ان سے ملاقات اور آج ان کی پریس کانفرنس سے جو میرے لئے سب سے تسلی بخش بات ہے وہ یہ ہے کہ عمران خان حیات ہیں - ان کی صحت الحمد الله ٹھیک ہے - سیاست اور حکومت گئی تیل لینے ' میرے لئے سب سے اہم بات یہ ہے کہ عمران خان جن کو نو ماہ سے کسی نے دیکھا بھی نہی تھا ؛ وہ جسمانی طور پر ویسے نہی تھے جیسے بہت سے یوٹیوبرز ان کو بنا کر پیش کر رہے تھے -
میرا یار زندہ ' صحبت باقی -

اب آتے ہیں اس کے دوسرے پہلو کی طرف - بلاشبہ یہ ٹوپی ڈرامہ کرکے حکومت نے ووہی کیا جس کی ان سے توقع کی جارہی تھی - میں پہلے ہی لکھ چکا ہوں کہ مسلم لیگ نواز کی حکومت کا گریس ' ظرف اور آئین کی پاسداری سے اتنا ہی تعلق ہے جتنا
جواد احمد کا شائستگی سے ،
خواجہ آصف کا امور وزارت دفاع سے—
چاہت فتح علی کا سروں اور ساز سے --
ہماری عدالتوں کا انصاف سے—
اور ہماری اسٹبلشمنٹ اور فوج کا اپنے حلف سے ہے-

کل بھی انہوں نے ووہی کیا جیسے کسی محلے کے کن ٹٹے ' نومی ' پومی ' شادا' مادہ یا اچھو ' کرتے ہیں - یعنی جھوٹ ' دھوکہ ' فریب ' اور وہ بھی محض سپریم کورٹ نہیں بلکہ سو سے زیادہ لوکل چینلز ' انٹرنیشنل میڈیا' شفا کے ڈاکٹروں سمیت پچیس کروڑ اس عوام کے ساتھ جو بیچاری وہاں راستوں میں پھول بچھا رہی تھی یا بیرون ملک سے میری طرح پھول بھجوا رہی تھی - لیکن اس معصومیت اور سادگی پر پاکستان کے عوام کو اپنے آپ کو بالکل بھی بدھو اور "naive" نہیں سمجھنا چاہیے کیوں کہ جو بھی ہوجاے سادگی اور معصومیت کبھی بدمعاشی کا نعم البدل نہیں ہوسکتی -

اس سارے ڈرامے میں مجھے جو روشنی کی پہلو نظرآتے ہیں وہ یہ ہیں :

1 . سب سے بڑھ کر خان حیات ہے - الحمد لللہ - جسمانی طور پر ابھی بھی اتنا توانا ہے کہ ان کی بینڈ بجا سکتا ہے -

2 . شفا شپتال کی جگہ پمز بھیجنے کی یہ بچگانہ حرکت کرکے اور ڈاکٹر فیصل کو شفا بھیج کر خان کو چیک کرنے والے ڈاکٹروں میں ان کو نہ شامل کرکے حکومت نے کھلم کھلا سپریم کورٹ کے آرڈر کی خلاف ورزی کرکے کم سے کم اپنے خلاف "توہین عدالت " فائل کرنے کا فورم ضرور مہیا کردیا ہے -

3 . ایک ہی رات میں عمران خان کی جیل واپسی نے غریده فاروقی جیسے بہت سے ان "دانش وڑوں" کے اس بیانیے کو بھی دفن کردیا ہے کہ عمران خان کسی "ڈھیل یا ڈیل" کے چکر میں ہیں - ساتھ میں رائٹرز (Reuters ) کو دیے گیے زلفی بخاری کے بیان کو بھی کلئیر کردیا ہے جس کو توڑ مروڑ کر حکومتی میڈیا یہ تاثر دینے کی کوشش کر رہا تھا کہ "خان اب باہر آئیگا تو آرمی چیف پر تنقید نہی کریگا " یعنی یہ سب کسی ڈیل کا نتیجہ ہے -

4. پاکستان کے عوام کا یوں کھلم کھلا مذاق اڑا کر اس حکومت نے اپنے خلاف اس نفرت کو مزید تڑکا لگادیا ہے جو پہلے ہی بام عروج پر تھی - لوگوں کو اس بات کا اور بھی یقین ہوگیا ہے کہ یہ صبح جھوٹ بولتے ہیں ' دوپہر میں کوڑ بکتے ہیں اور شام کو بھی بکواس ہی کرتے ہیں - ان میں نہ اخلاق ہے نہ احساس اور نہ آئین کی پاسداری - مجھے لگتا ہے یہ غصہ اگلے مہینے ہونے والے ستمبر 27 کے احتجاج کو نئی زندگی دیگا -

5 . اس حرکت کے بعد لوکل اور انٹرنیشنل میڈیا میں مسلم لیگ کے اس موقف کے بھی پرخچے اڑ گیے ہیں کہ ہم صحت پر سیاست نہی کرتے - ہر جگہ ایک ہی سوال ہے کہ جب بقول خود ان کے تحریک انصاف حکومت کی سفارش پر نواز شریف جیل سے لندن علاج کیلئے گیے تھے ' تو اپنی دفعہ جب یہ عمران خان کو جیل سے باہر لے ہی آیے تھے تو ایسا کیا تھا کہ پرائیویٹ ہسپتال کی جگہ سرکاری ہسپتال لے کر گیے - ایسا کیا ہے جس کو چھپانا چاہتے ہیں اور ایسا کیا ہے جس کی انویسٹیگیشن سے ان کو ڈر لگتا ہے کہ اس کو چھپانے کیلئے عدالت سے بھی متھا لگالیا اور عوام سے بھی کھلے کھاے-

6 - اس دھوکے کی وجہ سے پارلیمنٹ میں اپوزیشن اتحاد بننے کا عمل بھی تیز ہوگیا ہے اور یہ ایک مہینے بعد ہونے والے احتجاج کیلئے مثبت ثابت ہوگا -

یہ سب پوائنٹس تحریک انصاف کے حق میں جاتے ہیں - عمران خان شفا ہسپتال میں آ بھی جاتے وہاں بھی کچھ دن بعد وہ خود واپس جانے کی طرف مائل ہوتے کہ وہاں ان کی اہلیہ بیمار ہیں اور وہ کبھی بھی ان کو یوں اکیلا نہ چھوڑتے - ہاں یہ ضرور ہے کہ اس ایک ہفتے میں ان کا کارڈیک ورک اپ ضرور ہوجاتا جو اب نہیں ہوا - پر یہ بھی ایک نکتہ ہے جو عدالتوں کے سامنے اور اگلے ماہ سڑکوں پر اٹھایا جاسکتا ہے -

سو میں مطمئن ہوں کہ کچھ بھی ایسا نہیں ہوا جس سے عمران خان یا تحریک انصاف کو نقصان ہوا ہو - ہاں البتہ اس نظام کے "نومی ' اچھو ' اور ان کے پیچھے بیٹھے شادے اور گامے " اور بھی ننگے ہوگیے ہیں جو ایسا موقع ڈھونڈتے ہیں جہاں اپنے منہ پر کالک مل سکیں اور پھر اتنی کالک ملتے ہیں اتنا گوبر لیپتے ہیں کہ بدبو کے بھبھوکے آنے لگتے ہیں اور اس کے بعد فخر سے دلیل دے کر کہتے ہیں کہ گوبر میں نیچرل توانائی ہوتی ہے اسی لیے تو اس سے ایندھن جلتا ہے -

مایوس نہ ہوں اور عمران خان کا یہ کلپ سنیں جو ان کی مظبوط شخصیت اور فولادی عزم کی ترجمان ہے --

کیوں کہ میرا یار زندہ - صحبت باقی -
