Severus Snape easily deserves more hate. James Potter was an arrogant, privileged bully in his youth who tormented kids at Hogwarts, but he grew out of it, joined the Order of the Phoenix, and died at twenty-one trying to protect his family from dark wizards.

Severus Snape willingly joined a genocidal hate group, leaked the prophecy that got Lily Potter killed, and then spent his adult life abusing terrified children as a grown teacher, including Neville Longbottom and Harry Potter. James Potter was a flawed teenage bully who grew into a hero, while Severus Snape was a bitter adult who bullied children to cope with his own regret.
