We see ourselves in the art we like.
I just collected "Pendulum" by @miraykurtulus because it immediately evoked a narrative that is always close to the surface of my own consciousness. To me, this artwork sings of the balance of forces that preserve life on Earth being constantly and precariously maintained by a single, homeostatic entity that we sometimes call Mother, sometimes Gaia, or the ten thousand other names.
In this animation, we see her gracefully maintaining her balance as though teetering on a floating clam shell like a less coy Venus from Botticelli's canvas. In this instance, her stability is made more elusive thanks to the weight of cities on her shoulders, the demands of human civilization. Despite her best efforts she periodically swings too far in either direction resulting in danger and death for us, but perhaps also for her.
The artist says the piece describes "a place where every decision is a tightrope walk between destruction and grace". It illuminates the purity and power of this piece that the ideas I formed when viewing it through my own lens were contained within these few words by the artist. Here Miray distills the essence of my own interpretation and shines it back at me with diamond clarity.
This is what art does best: through image/sound/action it refines an idea to it's elemental structure and reflects it back to the world ready to be rebuilt in the consciousness of another being. This is why I love art. Thank you Miray for reminding me of this today.
✦ Which artists on objkt deserve more recognition?
✧ @Arthemort - That’s a tough one. I frequently return to @kubilayodabas, @kiszkiloszki, and @Mobotato for their animation work. Some of my most meaningful discoveries on objkt include @DesLucrece and @JoanieLemercier. I also love the photography of Maria Pleskova and Angelika Collin. I remain deeply attached to the work of @luluixixix and @jjjjjjjjjjohn.
Most of these artists are already well known within the @Tezos community, so if I had to name just one: @miraykurtulus. I recently acquired a work I’d been eyeing for months; it’s outstanding.
Mind Over has found a new home with @oxymeltez!
It truly makes me happy to leave it in the hands of a collector who always shows such genuine admiration and support for my art.
I’m grateful that it is now in safe, appreciative hands.
Merci beaucoup Oxymel!
“Spin” is out now 🌀
The final single before Cava Grande’s 3rd studio album. 🤘
Raw synths, hard-hitting techno/rave energy, with romantic melodies. Sorrowful dance music forever! 😂
