22 years.
Faithful, loyal and brave.
Survived two putt bull attacks, held his own.
One of the oldest living dogs in the world.
The absolute bravest living thing I have ever met — Koda Bear was NEVER scared.
Last day.
I thought I was ready, but you never really are. Akira, I know you miss your brother, he’s ready to come home now.
Only in San Francisco… A 30,000-square-foot former Banana Republic flagship sitting vacant and empty near Union Square, a matte-gray Cybertruck parked like it owns the block in a no parking yellow zone…
and one lone tree…
Now that more of their dirt is coming to light, anybody else notice you don’t hear Democrats throwing around the “grifter” attack quite as much?
I think it’s becoming pretty obvious why some of these people are so obsessed with raising taxes: government funding, grants, and nonprofit money have become the business model.
If your entire political ecosystem depends on extracting more money from taxpayers while producing little measurable value for ordinary people, eventually people are going to start asking where the money actually goes.
GUESS WHO? 👀🍿
The "unnamed Oakland City Councilmember" in the Sheng Thao FBI files is Oakland CM Carroll Fife
“An unnamed Oakland City Councilmember” allegedly had a recorded phone call with Andy Duong in January 2024, discussing multiple recall campaigns—including the one targeting Sheng Thao.
In 1988 Dolly Parton pulled every 7th and 8th grader in Sevier County into a room and told them to pick a buddy.
She made them sign a contract.. if BOTH graduate, she hands you both $500. One fails, nobody gets paid.
The county dropout rate went from 35% to 6%.
She handed out the checks herself.
In 1989 she offered $500 to every kid in the county who wanted to go to the local college.
When Gatlinburg burned in 2016, she sent 900 families $1,000 a month for six months.
You've probably heard that part.
Here's the part you haven't:
The fund raised more than expected, so she showed up in May and handed every one of those families another $5,000 on top.
Then she quietly put $3 million into the recovery group that handles the years after the news trucks leave.
She built her county an entire hospital.
She played a benefit concert in 2007, Dollywood and the Stampede matched it, and LeConte Medical Center opened in 2010 with a birthing unit and a women's center in it.
In 2022 she started covering 100% of tuition, books, and fees for Dollywood employees.
Full-time, part-time, AND seasonal.
In 1991 she paid for a bald eagle sanctuary because the birds couldn't be released back into the wild, no press release.
And when Hurricane Helene came through here in Western North Carolina, she wrote a personal check for $1 million and her companies matched it.
She didn't owe North Carolina anything, but she helped us anyway.
She started the Imagination Library because her daddy couldn't read or write. Before he passed, he told her it was the most important thing she ever did.
Rest in Peace, Dolly 🇺🇸
“Harm reduction” and “housing first” are why we have a “homeless” crisis. We need moderates to run for mayor in Seattle, LA, Denver and other cities where “progressives” who hate civilization weaponize the mentally ill and addicted to terrorize neighborhoods.
Huge pile of trash at 33rd & San Pablo Ave. in West Oakland quickly removed w/help by heavy-duty truck w/crane & claw being rented by @Oakland to tackle illegal dumping. 5:30,7 p.m. @KTVU
Y’all remember when Oakland had a ransomware attack and we paid the ransom and our data was stolen anyway?
I’m starting to think Thao and her staff knew and may have helped to do it.
Let’s hope the Feds remember to ask!
Nikki Fortunato Bas is now a witness in the Sheng Thao federal corruption trial.
The former Oakland City Council President and longtime political ally of Sheng Thao will take the stand under oath. She claims she is not a target. That does not erase the years she spent as one of Thao’s closest partners at City Hall while the alleged pay-to-play scheme with the Duong family was underway.
As Council President, Bas sat at the center of the same progressive machine that elevated Thao, protected her agenda, and helped maintain the political environment in which the corruption flourished. Sensitive contracts, city appointments, and internal strategy all moved through the Council she led. The same network that produced secret recordings of politicians, cash payments to bury damaging stories, and fake jobs for Thao’s partner operated under that leadership structure.
Now the federal case is forcing the people who enabled and aligned with Thao into the open. Bas will have to answer questions under oath about what she knew, what she saw, and how City Hall functioned during the years the Duongs were buying influence.
This is not ancient history. This is the same political ecosystem that left Oakland with exploding crime, gutted public safety, and a mayor now facing federal bribery charges. The people who stood with Thao through all of it are finally being pulled into the record.
The trial begins October 19.
Pamela Price’s own prosecutors quit because they said they could no longer ethically do their jobs.
Charly Weissenbach, a veteran trial attorney, wrote that she no longer felt capable of fulfilling her legal and ethical duties under this administration. Jill Nerone resigned and said she could not adequately and ethically protect the rights of victims. Stacie Pettigrew walked out after Price forced through a soft plea deal for a serial killer.
These were not ordinary departures. Experienced prosecutors who had spent years putting violent offenders away concluded they could not remain without violating their professional obligations.
Price then compounded the damage. She fired the Chief Inspector, a highly decorated 22-year veteran who managed more than 60 sworn officers, and replaced him with Marcus Eric Lewis. Court filings show Lewis had not been Livescanned, had not undergone a background investigation, and had not passed the required POST medical or psychological exams when he was given the position. He had previously been forced out of the Oakland Police Department after an outside investigator formally found him untruthful under oath.
Price removed a 22-year unblemished veteran and installed a man with a documented finding of dishonesty who had not even cleared basic hiring requirements. That is not reform. That is the calculated replacement of competence with loyalty.
This is the record that led to her recall by 63 percent of voters.
Public safety is not a political talking point. You can’t play politics with the safety of Oakland residents. The residents of Oakland are living the consequences, and it’s not fair that innocent lives become the sacrificial lambs for the political ideology of elected officials.
Dear @Oakland
Reality check, @BarbaraLee_CA. A 35-year political career from the California Legislature to Congress may come with accolades, but a long résumé and name recognition alone will not save Oakland.
There appears to be a false narrative that a long political résumé and name recognition will somehow fix the serious issues facing Oakland. Some voters may have believed that experience alone would turn this city around, but Oakland deserves more than a name or a legacy. At this point, continuing to push that idea is tone-deaf to the reality residents are living every day.
Meanwhile, many people will simply blame the club for this tragedy. Yes, the business may hold some responsibility, but the conversation cannot stop there. The families of the victims should seriously consider legal action against the City of Oakland as well.
When elected officials are repeatedly warned about public safety risks and fail to act, ignore dangerous conditions, or allow ongoing problems to continue, that goes beyond politics. It becomes negligence. The families who lost loved ones deserve transparency, accountability, and the truth about whether warning signs were ignored.
What makes this even more troubling is the narrative being presented to the public.
City leaders continue telling residents that crime is going down in Oakland, yet crime data from the @oaklandpoliceca is often months behind, sometimes three months or more. When delayed statistics are used to reassure the public, it can create a picture that does not reflect what residents and officers are actually experiencing in real time. Ask the officers yourself. Many will tell you the same thing.
If the city had knowledge of ongoing safety concerns, delayed responses, or failed oversight, those failures should be examined in court. Lawsuits are sometimes the only way to force transparency. They require cities to open records, explain decisions, and confront the gaps in public safety that put lives at risk.
The people of Oakland deserve leadership that prioritizes real safety over political narratives. And if that responsibility was neglected, the families who suffered unimaginable loss have every right to demand accountability, including from the city itself.

Today I walked into the GAP on Lakeshore Ave in Oakland and learned it’s closing for good in July.
This store has been part of Oakland since 1987. Another longtime retailer leaving isn’t just “business as usual” it’s a warning sign.
Oakland already barely has major retail left, and upscale shopping in this city is almost nonexistent. Most Oakland residents already leave the city just to shop. Every time another established store closes, it hurts jobs, foot traffic, neighborhood stability, and the city’s image.
Yet Oakland’s elected officials still don’t seem to understand the seriousness of what’s happening to our commercial corridors. I like a city that has upscale shopping, lots retail options etc
How many more stores need to close before they finally pay attention?

Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee wants to pay the homeless $29/hour to clean up trash around their encampments.
Pay people to fix the mess they create and you get more mess. That’s how incentives work. Portland tried this and the encampments increased 239%.
This isn’t compassion or innovation. It’s rewarding people for trashing the city with taxpayer money while neighborhoods stay buried in garbage.
Same mayor. Same bad ideas. Same results.
This is who has been failing Oakland.
Lance Wilson is a convicted opioid trafficker who just showed he is the most toxic and incompetent fraud operating in Bay Area politics.
He was hired to defend Sheng Thao and Pamela Price against recall campaigns driven by crime and disorder. He lost both fights completely. The man brought in to spin their way out of disaster delivered total defeat while the very conditions his radical agenda helped create finished the job.
Wilson played a central role in a sophisticated Modesto prescription drug theft ring that stole blank scripts from a pain clinic, forged them with fake patient data, and routed massive quantities of oxycodone and hydrocodone through a complicit CVS technician for illegal street distribution during the height of the opioid epidemic. This was organized crime for profit, not some minor street-level mistake. He was sentenced to 8 years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute those controlled substances.
After serving that time he pivoted to selling his record as sacred “lived experience” currency. He got paid at The Worker Agency to handle crisis communications for embattled leaders and at the Anti Police-Terror Project 501(c)3 to push full abolitionist demands aimed at stripping police from communities of color and ultimately dismantling the Oakland Police Department. He coordinated opposition to basic public safety tools while crime, retail theft, and disorder exploded on his watch.
This is the same man who publicly attacks judges and prosecutors as “some of the crookedest people in this world”. A convicted drug dealer who exploited vulnerable people for profit now positions himself as the moral authority on justice while working to weaken the institutions that protect communities. The hypocrisy is staggering and the danger is real.
He was supposed to save Sheng Thao and Pamela Price. Instead he lost both recall campaigns and exposed himself as a complete liability. His radical ideology and incompetent spinning delivered nothing but failure. The voters saw the results and rejected the entire project.
No serious campaign, no serious organization, and no serious donor should ever work with or platform Lance Wilson again. He is a walking fraud whose only real skill is cashing checks while the communities he claims to represent suffer the consequences of his grift and his extremism.
Sheng Thao sold Oakland to the highest bidder and now the bill is coming due in exactly 90 days.
The federal corruption trial begins October 19.
The bribes were not rumors. Andre Jones allegedly collected $95,000 in no-show money from the Duong crime family while Sheng Thao steered city contracts their way. Oakland paid the price in the form of stripped police resources, exploding violent crime, and lost grants while her administration played political games and used “Black leaders as tokens.”
This was never governance. It was a straight pay-to-play operation that treated the city like a personal ATM for connected insiders.
Now the insiders are facing real consequences.
Andre Jones is staring down serious federal time with every reason to cooperate and tell the full story. The Duongs are in the same position. The evidence trail is already documented and will be laid out in open court.
Sheng Thao spent years acting like the rules did not apply to her. The next 90 days are the last ones she gets before a federal jury decides how much that arrogance is going to cost.
Oakland is buried in garbage.
20 million pounds of illegal dumping. That’s the scale of the crisis the Alameda County Civil Grand Jury just labeled “inadequate and abysmal.” In 2015 the city collected 3.2 million pounds. Today it’s more than 6 times that amount. The city has spent roughly $25 million on cleanups, yet the problem has only grown worse.
No one is in charge. Departments operate in silos. Officials give conflicting answers about who’s responsible. Enforcement is weak and inconsistent. Hotspots fester for weeks while residents watch their neighborhoods treated like a regional dump.
This is the reality under Mayor Barbara Lee.
She has spent more than a year claiming she elevated illegal dumping as a top priority. She has staged the photo-ops, launched the “Keep The Town Clean” initiative, and announced grants and expanded crews. An independent grand jury just made clear that none of it has produced a functioning system. The same fragmentation and lack of accountability that existed before her administration still exists today.
Her response to the report was not a serious plan to fix the coordination failure. It was another argument for charter reform so she can consolidate more power. She is using a crisis that is destroying quality of life across Oakland as leverage to rewrite the rules in her favor instead of delivering results with the authority she already holds.
Oakland does not need a mayor who treats basic city services as a political opportunity. It needs leadership that actually makes the streets clean.
This is who hasn’t been leading Oakland.
When Barbara Lee pledged within her first 100 days to launch a comprehensive forensic audit to identify waste, fraud, and abuse, many Oaklanders envisioned a sweeping review of how City Hall spends taxpayer dollars.
The supplemental report for Tuesday, July 21, 2026 City Council , Consent Item S6.30 ( ~ S6.54),shows that the City selected a highly qualified forensic auditing firm with a proven record of uncovering procurement failures, political influence, weak internal controls, and questionable spending in other jurisdictions.
And rather than examining City expenditures broadly, the audit is limited to capital projects and Human Services contracts from a specific three-year period.
Was this done by the City Council Members or City Administrator protecting any wrongdoings???
For residents who hoped for a citywide accounting of spending and accountability, the disappointment isn't in the auditor it's in the audit they were asked to perform. The promise of a comprehensive forensic audit remains only partially fulfilled, leaving many to wonder whether the broader examination they expected will ever come.
Another unfinished promise.
