Today I’m thinking about Mona Naghib. An 8 year old Baluch girl from Sistan and Baluchistan, Iran in 2022 who was shot in the head by Islamic Republic forces while walking to school with her older sister.

The part that destroys me is imagining the moment she fell to the ground and her sister asked:
“Why did you fall?”

And little Mona answered:
“They shot me.”

Her 10 year old sister Maryam carried Mona’s small body herself trying to get her to the hospital. She got tired over and over, put her down, picked her back up again and kept going.

These are the same monsters who pretend to care about any child today.
