HORRIFIC: Suspect smiles in mugshot after ambush that killed Philadelphia officer and left partner shot 12 times

Early Saturday morning in West Philadelphia, officers responded to a report of a man with a gun on a porch and were ambushed upon arrival.

Officer Shane Seiber was shot multiple times and died; his partner was hit 12 times.

The suspect, a 35-year-old city Water Department employee Eric Lewis, was arrested by a SWAT team while hiding in a tree.

Lewis was arraigned earlier this morning and smiled for his newly released mugshot.

He faces roughly 80 charges, including murder and 10 counts of attempted murder, and is held without bail.

Seiber was a 40-year-old married father of two and a 10-year veteran of the force. The surviving officer, a 33-year-old father of five, remains in stable condition after extensive surgery.
