A case of an alleged life-threatening attack on a train has been reported against Islamic scholar Maulana Mazhar Hussain, a resident of Bhagalpur, Bihar.

Maulana Mazhar Hussain alleges that on June 27, 2026, while returning from Varanasi to Bhagalpur, he was attacked by three or four men wearing saffron scarves near Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay (Mughalsarai) Junction.

According to the Maulana, the attackers struck him several times on his head and body with stones lying on the railway tracks. He alleges that the attackers made derogatory comments about his beard and skullcap and targeted him because of his religious identity.

The Maulana says that he somehow managed to escape and reached Mughalsarai Junction, where his health deteriorated and he fell unconscious. According to him, railway employees picked him up and took him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
At present, we await further police action and official confirmation of the motive for the attack. If new facts emerge from the investigation, the picture will become clearer.
