Remember Moravec's paradox?

"Corner cases".

"Long tails".

You can play whack-a-mole with them.

Or, you can confront their root causes directly.

Our new paper "Evolution and The Knightian Blindspot of Machine Learning" argues we should do the latter.

new paper: "Evolution and the Knightian Blindspot of Machine Learning"

Our ever-changing world bubbles with surprise and complexity. General AI must include handling unforeseen situations with grace. Yet this issue largely lies outside AI's formalisms: a blind spot. (1/n)

Blue Moon alert:

This year, a Full Moon lands on Halloween. With a 29.5-day cycle of phases, any time you squeeze two full moons into a month, the second one is called the “Blue Moon.”

Yes, that means February is S.O.L. in its bid for Blue Moons.

I'm grateful for Dr. Fauci's tireless work to disseminate good science about the pandemic.

When we see a scientist unfairly attacked, we need to speak up. It is by doing so that we defend not just the scientist, but also the scientific process.

Soviet cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev was in space when the Soviet Union fell apart in 1991. Unable to return home, he had to stay in space until further notice. The cosmonaut eventually returned back to earth after 10 months in orbit - to a very different nation. Photo by Volkov/TASS

Very interesting the payload to LEO comparison of different launch systems. Tight cap on #Falcon9 compared to the NASA behemoths of old and future. The Dragon 2 is 9,525kg. #space #LaunchAmerica #spacex #nasa

docked!!! yesterday/today has been monumental for America in space. I remember watching the last space shuttle launch from Titusville opposite Cape Canaveral. I waited 8 hrs sleeping by a tree in space park to see the launch into a blanket of clouds. #launchAmerica #space #nasa
