I spent 3000+ hours on a program solo and 2 weeks after launch its exploding!! 👇
I normally wouldn’t post on Reddit, but I figured my story might help someone building their own thing. Last year I started building V3Code, a fork of VSCode/Void. I’d failed a bunch of projects before learning coding and some Ai, and I was frustrated with Cursor forgetting everything after each chat. VSCode was a huge codebase, so I leaned on Opus 4.6 and obsessed — 13 to 16 hours a day, sometimes 20+. I built memory, indexing, and what I call Context Bridge with LSP tools. A few months in, I had a rough editor, a chat system, and a working memory layer. I switched to Claude Code because Cursor was burning through my subscription in days. Claude felt endless. So I exposed V3Code tools through MCP, hooked up memory + indexing, and suddenly it wasn’t about building V3Code — it was about making Claude better. That became my # feature. Eight months passed. I kept improving everything, terrified it would be another failure. I added “bring your own key,” optimized for Grok and DeepSeek, kept everything local because of the Cursor/XAI data mess, and built a full terminal version. I still didn’t ship. I was scared. Then I realized people were launching half‑baked apps and talking about MRR. A closed mouth doesn’t get fed. So I pivoted hard: learned After Effects, motion graphics, funnels, everything. If I spent a year building something better, I needed to learn how to sell it. I posted everywhere. Nothing moved. Then I found a YouTuber with 15k subs whose Claude videos were blowing up. I paid him $250. Weeks passed — I thought I got ripped off. Then he dropped the video. Across all channels it hit a few hundred thousand to a 1/2 mil views. My site exploded. Thousands of visitors in days. Now I’m at 9k downloads, 2500 active Daily users, and 83 paid customers with 85% retention. I even had to pause paid plans because of model rate limits.
What I learned:
\-Don’t market yourself if you have no audience.
\-Find creators who are almost blowing up, this is your ride if you can help them pitch it.
\-A real great product matters, but not as much as you think. Sweat/ grind matters.
\-Two months minimum. Then Ship. Don’t wait for it to be perfect.
If you want to try V3Code and give feedback, it’s free. r/v3code Paid plans are optional. The newest feature is a voice agent you talk to like ChatGPT — it builds while you brainstorm its like Jarvis but better. Not saying I “made it big,” but it’s growing every day by word of mouth.
V3Code is opening its Creator Program.
Earn 20% recurring commission for every paying user you bring in—for up to 12 months.
A Max signup can earn you $20/month from one customer.
Build a real audience, and that can become thousands in recurring income.
We’re not offering creators a tiny one-time bounty. We want you to share in the upside and build a real business alongside V3Code.
