@DrAbioye The situation is quite symbolic of scientific solutions: inadvertently creating problems while proffering solutions. This model, aimed at inclusiveness, might end up shutting out researchers from resource-poor countries. It's sad.
@TamulaMlalazi@NewsfromScience Like retroviruses such as HIV, bacteria can generate DNA from RNA ie reverse transcription (instead of just copying the existing DNA template ie replication). That mechanism called DRT3 has 2 components; one which does as said above and an unusual twin that uses amino acids.
We are recruiting sewersheds for an expanding project. Basically, we want to learn everything that can be learned from wastewater.
Read on if you are interested.

There was a nice paper that recently came out about a patient that had COVID for 521 days.
I find it interesting for different reasons that most though.

I’m pleased to share that we FINALLY submitted our latest manuscript on SARS-CoV-2 cryptic lineages and what they tell us about the origins of COVID-19.
This was a ton of work.

What kind of childhood makes a top scientist? Is it enough to have all the right traits (brilliance, grit, etc) or do you need the right family too?
And why should we care? A 🧵 on our paper on the Nobel Laureates.
A teaser: the income distribution of the laureates' fathers.1/N
@DrAbioye What's particularly interesting to me is that marginal drop in the late 30s for males and how it compounds. That's a life expectancy policy fertile ground!
I’ve mostly pooh-poohed the rise of XEC for 2 reasons:
#1. Its spike is almost identical to the dominant KP.3.1.1
#2. I don’t think its advantage over KP.3.1.1 is large enough to make a significant real-world impact.
But one aspect of XEC is noteworthy: The demise of N*.

@healthertainer Thank you, Dr Kelechi for your post.. There are excellent systems in place for data in the FCT. Data from DHIS 2 and IDSR have not shown any abnormal increase in malaria cases for this season, neither have we picked up unusual disease of PH importance. Please keep engaging
Did a couple of revamp (for some revered clients though) on some high-end shoes recently. This is another one. It's a lot of work but let's see how it goes.
Oh look, the Maryland cryptic Delta is back (Apr 30, 2024).
This is some classic cryptic RBD action. 490Y, 493K, 498Y, 501T, etc.
Looks like it is trying to decide between acquiring 483Y or 500N+502G.
I sure would like to know what this person's symptoms are.
