A zoo cannot profit from captivity and then use the damage captivity caused as justification for more captivity.
Lucy’s suffering is not a reason to preserve the system that caused it. Captivity created the damage, so the zoo has a moral duty to fix what it started.

It all started with Rex, his first dog. When he died, the pain was so great that Ferran and his sister decided to tattoo his name so they would never forget him. Since then, dogs have held a central place in his life: his home has rest areas designed just for them, and since 2021 he has been an ambassador for Wild at Heart Foundation, an organization that rescues stray dogs in different countries.

Today, he shares his home with Minnie and Lluna, two adopted dogs who remind him every day why he decided to use his fame to speak up about something that matters to him: making sure no animal is left abandoned.

At Tennoji Zoo in midsummer, Dara, Amoi, and Kelat spent most of the day indoors, with the hot outdoor area offering little more than sand, concrete, and a small pond. Elephants belong in a more natural habitat, where they can truly thrive.

People are still fighting for Lucy’s release, and my heart is with that fight. Recent polling suggested about two thirds of Edmonton voters supported relocating her to a sanctuary. If she remains there, I believe a boycott is the least we can do For Lucy’s life and dignity. 🐘
