Two police officers have gone on trial after they used pepper spray and a Taser on a 92-year-old care home resident who had one leg.
The officers were responding to a call from the care home in St-Leonards on Sea in East Sussex, after Donald Burgess threatened staff with a knife.
Prosecutors claim the officers used "unjustified and unlawful" force against the pensioner.

Ministry of Justice sources stressed that no decision would be taken until intensive trials have been undertaken involving members of the National Tactical Response Group (NTRG). The trials are not taking place in prisons and do not involve live targets.

The move could lead to squads of specialist prison officers being issued with the 50,000-volt stun guns when they are sent in to jails to quell riots. It follows concerns being expressed over the levels of violence in prisons.
