WHY THE ADHD BRAIN CANNOT JUST LET THINGS GO

1. THE BRAIN FILED IT AS UNRESOLVED.
Something happened. It did not end cleanly. Your brain cannot close an unresolved file. It will keep that tab open, running in the background, returning to it without permisson until something resolves it or replaces it.
2. REJECTION STAYS LONGER THAN IT SHOULD.
One comment. One cold reply. One moment of dismissal. Your brain did not file it as minor. It filed it as a threat and keeps returning to it the way a tongue returns to a broken tooth. Automatically. Compulsively. Without your permission.
3. THE CONVERSATION THAT ENDED WRONG.
You said something slightly off. Or they did. Either way your brain has been rewriting that conversation for three days trying to find the version where it ended correctly. It will not stop until it does.
4. PERCEIVED INJUSTICE RUNS DEEP.*
Something unfair happened. Maybe small. Maybe years ago. Your brain has an extremely sensitive justice system and it does not have a statute of limitations. Unfair things stay filed under active cases indefinitely.
5. THE LOOP IS NEUROLOGICAL NOT EMOTIONAL.
You are not dwelling because you are weak. You are looping because your brain’s ability to shift attention away from unresolved emotional is genuinely impaired. This is a dopamine and norepinephrine issue. Not a character issue.
6. CLOSURE IS NOT OPTIONAL FOR YOUR BRAIN.
Other people can leave things unresolved and move on. Your brain physically cannot file something as closed until it finds an ending it can accept. This is why you need the conversation. The explanation. The resolution. Not because you are difficult. Because your brain requires it to function.

No it’s not. It’s the inability to start or finish anything, including making a simple decision- because u can see all ten thousand paths forward. Too many options, too many things to do, to fix, to say, to worry about, to prevent - it’s the outline to The Odyssey in your head all the time in all things and in every interaction. It’s recognizing patterns and connecting dots other people didn’t even recognize as dots. It’s knowing your brain is a super power but hating it the most because it gives you an awareness that most will never be burdened by.
