Construction Begins on Mali's Gold Refinery
The President of the Transition, His Excellency General Assimi GOÏTA, presided over the formal ceremony to lay the foundation stone for Mali's future national gold refinery on Monday, June 16, 2025, in Sénou, Commune VI of the Bamako District.
Alongside the Head of State, numerous dignitaries were present: the Prime Minister, the President of the National Transitional Council, members of the Government, representatives of the Yadran company, diplomats accredited to the Republic of Mali, and the people of Commune VI.
This refinery, the result of strong political will, is a continuation of the National Refoundation Conference, during which the Malian people expressed a clear expectation: to ensure that Mali's gold benefits Malians, recalled the President of the Transition, in an interview with the press, after laying the foundation stone of Mali's future gold refining plant.
This strategic infrastructure, with a capacity of 200 tonnes of gold per year, will finally allow the country to locally refine all the gold extracted on its soil, putting an end to decades of crude export to foreign refineries.
The Sénou complex will be built to the highest international standards. It will include analytical laboratories, secure warehouses, and state-of-the-art equipment. It will also be able to process gold from other countries in the region, positioning Mali as a key player in the West African gold industry.
