بر اساس تصاویر منتشر شده در شبکه‌های اجتماعی روز یکشنبه، سوم تیر ، یک کفتار که به علت مصدومیت به مدت یک سال تحت مراقبت و دو عمل جراحی توسط کارشناسان محیط زیست و دامپزشکی قرار داشت، در طبیعت شهرستان کنگاور واقع در شرق کرمانشاه آزاد شد.

کفتار به عنوان یک حیوان شب‌گرد شناخته می‌شود و گاهی در اوایل صبح و غروب هم دیده می‌شود.

این حیوان اغلب به صورت تنها زندگی می‌کند، اما گاهی همراه با خانواده‌اش فعالیت می‌کند. رژیم غذایی آن شامل پستانداران کوچک، تخم پرندگان، میوه‌ها، سبزیجات، حشرات و اجساد حیوانات مرده است.

بر اساس طبقه بندی IUCN، وضعیت کفتار ب�� عنوان یک گونه در معرض خطر (NT) تعیین شده است و سکونتگاه‌ گسترده‌ای در ایران دارد، به‌طوری‌که این حیوان را می‌توان در اکثر نقاط کشور یافت.

در ایران برخی افراد تحت عنوان دعا‌نویسی، بخت‌گشایی یا کاربرد به عنوان طلسم، اعضای قطع‌شده حیوانات از جمله کفتار و پلنگ را می‌فروشند.
