THREAD!
I played around with some data and created a metric called 'progression effectiveness' to give insight into players who can advance the ball closer to the opposition goal through their passes, highlighting impactful contributors throughout the game.
Will the current U17 coaches in Nigeria still use the same approach of players selections to assemble players or a different approach…
This is an interesting area …
I’m never a fan of inviting thousands of players to Goal project for players selections.
This guy copied my whole code line to line and uploaded in his GitHub, sharing as his own work in LinkedIn. When I called out he blocked me!
This is shameful, he works in a football club!
I always believed in the power of sharing, I never wanted credit but this crossed the line.
Analyste vidéo & data, c'est deux taffs. Mais pour moi les deux vont ensemble.
Au FC Lyon j'ai créé mon propre outil de reporting stats.
La data a sa place partout, même en amateur. 💪

After 28 years, sadly my time at Opta has come to an end. Through seven different owners, some good, some bad, I've helped the companies grow the brand from start up to global behemoth and I've been very lucky to have a job that was also my hobby.
Spot on. From a data perspective there's now so many quality tools available to clubs and analysts, so there's less of a need to create
Marrying the 2 skills is where the difference is made today, so that an analyst isn't limited to what their data provider offers out of the box
“The job has changed. It’s no longer about coding games and generating data reports — that’s increasingly automated.
“The value now is in interpretation and communication. If you can’t translate insight into something a coach can use in 30 seconds, it doesn’t matter how good the analysis is.”

Been making a concerted effort to learn deeply about football data analysis and how those numbers are applied. Really interesting but personally feel like a decent amount of the data applications are underbaked with unaddressed assumptions.
Data is a convincing story to sell to decision makers and more convincing than eye-test or qualitative justifications and especially to those unfamiliar with football deeply, numbers can paint an enticing picture.
But yeah, I feel like a lot of the data stuff, at least in the past, although partly useful makes jumps too great when posing their conclusions.
