No, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Nigeria is not dead. She is very much alive and thriving!
As open a society as America is, there are limits on freedom of speech, such that pastors, priests, and other religious clerics cannot legally endorse, attack, or ask their congregations to support or donate money to a candidate while they are in church and acting as ministers of God. If they do, they will lose their (501(c)(3)) status and face other punitive measures.
The same is true in the United Kingdom.
So, why would Nigerian clerics think they can stand on their altars and pulpits and begin attacking or endorsing specific candidates, undermining the government of the day, or say things like "Nigeria is dead", while others call for revolutions?
In case Pastor Paul Adefarasin is not aware, the reason Nigeria became bankrupt and was almost a beggar nation in the early eighties, when his father's ₦18,000 salary was so high, was that the Nigerian naira was strictly pegged to the US dollar under President Shehu Shagari's administration.
What that meant was that the Naira was tied to the value of the US Dollar, not to the productivity of the Nigerian economy, meaning that Nigeria had to cover the gap between the real value of the Naira, which was then abysmally low, and its pegged value, by frittering away our foreign reserves and taking on loans.
That is why the Shagari Administration was forced to introduce major national austerity measures on Wednesday, April 21, 1982, or the Nigerian economy would have collapsed!
To put things in proper perspective, since President Bola Tinubu introduced the Naira's flotation, which is the same economic policy driving the US Dollar, Nigeria's GDP has consistently grown at an average of 4% per annum.
By contrast, when Paul Adefarasin's father was Chief Judge of Lagos, and, according to him, was earning ₦18,000, Nigeria experienced economic recession, and our GDP did not grow. It shrank.
In 1981, our GDP growth rate was -20.8%. In 1982, it was -10.3%. In 1983, it was -5.0%.
And why were we having negative growth rates under Shagari, when Justice Adefarasin was Chief Judge of Lagos?
Because Nigeria was using the money we should have used to fund our economic growth to defend the Naira, which was pegged to the US Dollar.
Pegging a currency to the US dollar demands massive foreign reserves, and when you deplete your foreign reserves, you will have to borrow!
In contrast, since President Bola Tinubu floated the Naira, Nigeria has experienced an UNPRECEDENTED 12 cycles of GDP growth and trade surpluses.
Nigeria’s GDP growth rate for the full year 2024 was 3.38%. It was 3.87% in 2025. In 2026, the IMF projects that our GDP will grow above 4%.
And yet someone is saying our country is dead, then nostalgically painting the early eighties as a utopian period of economic bliss?
We are not all suffering from amnesia!
This is an area in which I am an authority, as I have a Master's in Law from England and completed my dissertation on International Banking and Finance Law before working in the British Parliament.
Nigeria under Shagari was a dumping ground for imports from all over the world. We were importing toothpicks and pizzas, and had a negative trade balance.
Today, under President Tinubu, the IMF listed Nigeria as the sixth-largest contributor to global GDP growth in 2025.
We now have a positive trade balance and have added $67 billion to the economy, having moved from a GDP of ₦269.29 trillion on May 29, 2023, when Asiwaju became President, to ₦372.8 trillion today.
How many Nigerian Pentecostal pastors had private jets, private runways, Rolls-Royces and private universities in the eighties? Today, is that not their lifestyle?
If Nigeria were dead, would Adefarasin be driving around Lagos in various high-end luxury vehicles and getting into road rage incidents with fellow motorists and pedestrians, which necessitated police intervention?
A man sat next to me at a roadside restaurant, staring at his phone, smiling nonstop.
Curious, I asked, “Good news?”
He said, “Yeah my daughter just sent me her first salary.”
I smiled and said, “That’s beautiful.”
He nodded, then went quiet for a moment before adding,
“She told me to buy something nice for myself but I think I’ll just save it. I still remember when I couldn’t even afford her school fees.”
A few minutes later, his food arrived.
Before touching it, he took a picture and sent it to her.
Then he whispered, almost to himself,
“At least now she knows I’m eating well.”
That’s when it hit me.
Some parents don’t need repayment.
They just need reassurance that all their sacrifices meant something.

THE GENEOLOGY OF ATIKU'S ENDLESS DEFEAT AT THE POLLS
In 1992 -
Atiku came 3rd behind MKO and Kingibe in the SDP primaries. Meanwhile MKO was first a businessman, then an accountant, a philanthropist before being a politician. Atiku lost to a man who takes politics as a side gig. Atiku was defeated by a man who sees politics as an afterthought.
In 2003
Ambition dragged him into a conflict with his boss, yet he couldn't outthink, outsmart and outplay his boss who was first a soldier, then a farmer, before being a politician. IBJ bested him in his game of manipulation and Atiku reluctantly remained as VP.
We shall charitably set aside the 2007 election - an exercise so soiled even its declared winner acknowledged the corruption. Over 30 million votes were recorded. Atiku, for all his years and hunger, scraped together a meagre, inconsequential 2.6 million. We move.
In 2011
Baba ran again in the PDP primaries. 3,500 delegates voted in the primaries and Atiku emerged mercilessly battered with just 805 votes, a far distance from Jonathan (2,736) whom Atiku recently declared aa inexperienced. Atiku was mangled by a GEJ who at 1992 was just a civil servant in OMPADEC when Atiku was already in the field as a Presidential hopeful.
He who claims the ocean is shallow - invite him to step inside.
The "inexperienced" man left the "experienced" man battered in his own arena. Experience, it turns out, is not the same as wisdom.
In 2015
Waziri as it is his birthright, he contested again in the APC Presidential Primaries and like 1993, he again came very distant 3rd behind Buhari and Kwankwaso. A paltry 954 votes behind Buhari's 3,430...
The only two occasions Atiku presented anything resembling a worthy challenge were 2019 and 2023 - both inside the PDP, both powered by machinery he did not build and structures he did not water.
Strip away the PDP's legacy.
Remove its grassroots networks, its institutional memory, its inherited loyalties - and what remains of Atiku Abubakar, presidential aspirant?
And eventually, Wike unceremoniously chased out the Waziri out of the PDP like a recalcitrant toddler.
And somehow, it is this monument of serial defeat, these political neophytes will attempt albeit sacrilegiously to suggest he poses any threat to the Master Strategist. The Jagaban of Politics... The only major political figure in the history of this republic who has never lost an election.
Stop that Nonsense please...
Good Afternoon Severally...
If you have the opportunity to advise Peter Obi: Omo see sense even obidiot emotions can't swallow this one>>>>>>>>
Simi Ireti Rt 👇🔥❤️
WITH DUE RESPECT HIS EXCELLENCY SIR... LET'S VISIT ANAMBRA UNDER YOUR TENURE.
I was an idle observer during the 2023 elections.
I decided to be away from social media and everything that had to do with the public.
So the Obidients were engaging in the arguments on how Peter Obi built an Eldorado in Anambra.
But truth is, many of them never experienced him as Governor nor have met him in person.
I was an active Student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University during his days as Governor in Anambra .
So many of my schoolmates will be reading this post and none of them who knew me would say "Maxi (as they used to call me) doesn't know what he's saying."
Now let's say I am going to approach this post with the eyes of a first person perspective.
They always say, "Peter Obi saved money" as Governor.
And that alone made him a great Governor to them. 😂
I am not an emotional person.I Love facts.
But as a matter of factedly, Was Peter Obi’s frugality actually positive to Anambra’s development?
I will challenge that narrative with these:
1. Poverty increased under Obi’s watch.
According to National Bureau of Statistics reports cited by fact-checkers, Anambra’s poverty rate was around 41.4% before Obi took office — but later rose to 53.7% during his tenure as governor. That’s an increase, not a reduction.
One of such days in 2010, I was on a project in Anambra East in communities called Anam, Aguleri, Umuleri, and you wouldn't have believed that such places were Anambra in 2010.
2. Poverty spiked early in his tenure.
By 2009–2010, the state’s poverty headcount had climbed sharply while Obi was still in office — meaning more people were living in poverty under his policies than before.
3. Successor Governor Obiano dramatically reduced poverty.
After Obi left office, his successor is credited with reducing Anambra’s poverty rate from nearly 60% to about 14.8% within five years — showing a vast reversal from Obi’s era.
Yes, Government is the highest spender in any society. When Peter Obi wasn't building schools or undertaking major projects, the economy was like a lake not a river.
4. Critics say frugality turned into austerity.
Opposition voices (including political analysts and commentators) argue Obi’s style of keeping funds tied up and not investing aggressively in infrastructure, schools or health facilities limited economic stimulation — leaving many communities behind.
5. Claims about zero schools/hospitals built.
Prominent critics have stated that Obi did not build a single stand-alone school or hospital during his eight years as governor, suggesting that “saving money” didn’t translate into visible development for citizens.
I visited a community called Eziagulu Otu towards preparation for President Jonathan's campaign. Meanwhile it was by Obis sponsorship we went there.
I was shocked to see there were no roads to this community. We had to cross the River Niger by boat . Our cars were loaded in this boat.
There were no roads to drive these cars. School children were in a mud class room.
That community never spoke nor understood a bit of English.
I was shocked.
But their Governor was saving money.
6. Frugality vs. development paradox.
Supporters love the discipline and no debt left narrative — but critics ask: What good is frugality if millions still fall into poverty and infrastructure remains inadequate?
If savings don’t lift people’s living standards, was the strategy really a success?
This is my final Point:
I tell people that Anambra is a state with the potential to become the Taiwan of Africa.
It would have been Peter Obi's best opportunity to prove himself and test his economic policies.
But they never worked. He couldn't create a good transportation system like the BRT for those Onisha and Nnewi traders to move their goods.
He couldn't even create a business and innovation park for investors to have a reason to always visit Nnewi.
He never created a powerplant for those Nnewi traders
