Today marks the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.
History only survives if we continue to remember it. Events like D-Day changed the course of the world, and we can’t afford to let those stories fade away.
Never forget.🇺🇸
‼️Lake Levels & Drought Update‼️
Despite some recent rainfall, much of the Tennessee Valley remains in severe or even extreme drought. Runoff, the portion of rainfall that makes its way into streams, rivers, and lakes, remains very low. In fact, runoff across the eastern Tennessee Valley is currently the fourth lowest in 152 years of recorded history.
To put that into perspective, the Valley has received an average of about 3½ inches of rain since Memorial Day weekend, but only about ½ inch has made its way into the river system as runoff.
In this update, TVA General Manager of River Management James Everett explains the current drought conditions, why lake levels are expected to gradually drift down through the summer, and what lake users should watch for while enjoying the water this season.

Hydropower has been part of our story since the beginning, and behind every dam is a team working every day to keep it operating safely and reliably.
Our Dam Safety team conducts detailed inspections and monitoring across our system of dams to help ensure they continue supporting electricity generation, flood control, navigation, recreation, water quality, and water supply across the region.
As National Dam Safety Awareness Day approaches this Sunday, Harrison and his team are part of the ongoing work helping keep our dams and communities safe.
Built for the people. Building for the future. 🇺🇸
America is celebrating its 250th anniversary, and TVA employees and contractors are building one of the largest energy expansions in our history with 3,770 megawatts of new electricity generation under construction across the region.
From strengthening the grid to preparing for the next generation of nuclear energy, this work is helping power American jobs and deliver reliable, affordable electricity that people across the region count on every day.

The TVA Board of Directors selects Mike Skaggs as interim president and CEO. Mike brings decades of experience at TVA and across the nuclear energy industry. He previously served as senior vice president of Operations and Construction at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant and led the completion of Unit 2 in 2016, a historic milestone for American energy.
His steady leadership and deep operational experience will help guide our work as we continue to deliver reliable, affordable energy, serve the people and communities of the Tennessee Valley, and advance the next generation of nuclear power to support America’s energy future.

The largest indoor 500 kV gas-insulated substation in the United States is now energized at our new Cumberland Combined Cycle Power Plant in Middle Tennessee.
The enclosed substation houses critical electrical switching equipment indoors, protecting it from extreme weather and temperatures. It is designed to route large amounts of electricity from the existing coal plant and the soon-to-be-completed combined-cycle natural gas plant across long distances, delivering reliable electricity across our growing region.
Our team, along with construction partner @Kiewit, will begin testing the new natural gas power plant this spring and summer. Once complete, the project will generate 1,450 megawatts of electricity, strengthening American energy dominance and powering more than 800,000 homes.🇺🇸
Winter Storm Fern continues to impact the Valley with a mix of rain, sleet, freezing rain, and snow. Overnight icing caused some power interruptions on both TVA transmission lines and local power company distribution systems, primarily in North Mississippi, North Alabama, Kentucky, southern Middle Tennessee, and parts of East Tennessee.
TVA and local power company crews are working to restore service safely where outages have occurred.
Messages including texts and emails claiming to be from the Tennessee Valley Authority or your local power company about scheduled or rolling power outages are not legitimate. Do not click on any links. Stay safe!
I passed no less than six @myTDOT large salt trucks with plows staging or patrolling during my short drive on I-40, I-275 & I-640 to run some last minute errands. TDOT Region 1 is ready no matter what falls from the sky. #Knoxville#TNWX
We are staging helicopters and line construction crews from East Tennessee to Mississippi ahead of this weekend’s winter storm.
If damage occurs to TVA’s transmission system, crews can quickly assess conditions so repairs can be made safely and as quickly as possible.
Santa may have his sleigh, but the tugboat Bearcat has some holiday sparkle of its own. 🎅🎄
Lighting up the Tennessee River in downtown Knoxville, it’s hard at work pushing barges that help keep essential goods moving across the Valley.
The Tennessee River carries nearly 50 million tons of freight every year, and the men and women who work the river keep that commerce moving through the holidays and throughout the year.

Demolition experts safely imploded the 500-foot and 800-foot stacks at the retired Bull Run Fossil plant. After 61 years of service, the plant was retired in 2023 — and now we’re looking ahead. Now, we’re focused on what’s next—using this site to pursue new energy technologies for expanding American power generation. 🇺🇸

This massive project, slated for completion in 2026, brings up to 1,100 skilled labor and union jobs to the site daily. When complete, this plant will supply enough power for over 800,000 homes! 🇺🇸🏡
