The UK Supreme Court has rejected Bahrain's bid to block a UK lawsuit brought by two activists over alleged spyware use. The ruling should serve as a signal that states may no longer be able to hide behind claims of sovereign immunity.

Here’s their take on the proposals & how it could affect their rights.
Companies are designing gen AI systems by harvesting troves of data & building exploitative supply chains in ways that risk widespread human rights abuses.
@Amnesty's new briefing exposes how unlawful web scraping to train gen AI is driving a mass invasion of privacy by design.

Together with others civil society partners @amnesty is calling on the @EUCOmmission, @Europarl_EN and the @EUCouncil to reject the AI Omnibus or legislative proposals to change the implementation of the AI Act.
The @EU_Commission launched a drive to simplify existing EU laws on artificial intelligence (AI) & data protection to ostensibly “boost competitiveness” and “cut red tape.” At stake here are rules that protect us on and offline.

Ever heard of Palantir?
Here's why it matters:
Palantir is a US software company.
It specialises in data products, used widely by governments for surveillance, intelligence and military purposes.
In January 2024, Palantir signed a contract with the Israeli military to use its technology in support of “war-related missions.”
Palantir has a deep relationship with US law enforcement.
It supplies ICE with tools that can be used for surveillance and targeting of migrants in the US.
Now, that same company is working at the heart of the UK National Health Service.
Palantir has already received £330 million of our money for its contract with our NHS England.
Health workers and patients have been ringing the alarm for years: this is not right.
What’s happening in Gaza is an ongoing genocide.
We shouldn’t have a company linked to human rights abuses have anything to do with the health of patients in the UK and the public health system.

🚨@Amnesty supports the latest briefing by @Medact (an organization bringing together health workers in the UK) urging hospitals to not use Palantir software, demanding that NHS (National Health Services) England cancels the contract entirely. https://t.co/5s8xHKThae
