"Do senior devs still have to look up stuff on StackOverflow?"
Gentle reader, I have gone to StackOverflow to read answers that I wrote about behavior that I myself designed and implemented.
Sometimes, when I read the (often over-the-top) marketing language of SaaS products that tout glorious promises of their “AIOps” tooling that will magically handle stuff (diagnosis/incidents/etc) without human intervention…I always seem to find they’re hiring on-call engineers.
oh, YES. o11y is not even -- not even *mostly* -- about debugging and firefighting! it is your five senses for your production systems, and it enriches every time you interact with them. https://t.co/gbSqkqY9Ip by @tc_oketch
When you make an internal improvement to software, traces & graphs may be your whole demo.
Observability makes internal changes visible
"use the observability tooling to showcase the impact of the changes as part of demos" @tc_oketch in @theleaddev
@theseverine @lizthegrey@mipsytipsy Totally agreed! Production experience is a much needed feedback loop for all developers. When I started to see all that could (and did) happen in prod with the thing that I built, I had no choice but to become a better developer
I've resigned as a member of the reddit board, I have urged them to fill my seat with a black candidate, + I will use future gains on my Reddit stock to serve the black community, chiefly to curb racial hate, and I’m starting with a pledge of $1M to @kaepernick7’s @yourrightscamp
Are you wondering why you seem to be stuck on your #Observability journey? Join me tomorrow for an asynchronous AMA with @TheLeadDev at https://t.co/N5vKTWDyEb
Anti-patterns of observability:
1) Obsession with tooling
2) Eventual observability
3) Observability is an end goal in and of itself
Watch the video when we share it to catch all the details!
