MC Okrika is trending because the frustrated comedian confronted rogue police officers in Etung, Ikom, Cross Rivers who harrased, extorted ₦150k from a farmer carrying moi moi and pure water.

He’s also accusing the DPO of complicity in illegal border smuggling.

A young farmer and his brother were going to farm with moi moi and pure water for lunch, when the officers stopped them at the checkpoint asking what they were carrying.

He told them it’s food, water and moi moi. The officers insisted they must search the bag; since they weren’t wearing a tagged uniform, the farmer insisted to record them as they searched his bags — all hell broke loose.

The police officer became violent and started beating him for questioning their job and “illegally” recording them. They then threatened to kill him in the bush. As the assault escalated, his brother intervened and pulled the officers away.

The officers then recorded this part, and sent it to the DPO of Etung Divisional HQ, who immediately ordered the arrest of the two brothers for “fighting” an officer on duty, and later collected ₦150k from their family for their bail.

Interestingly, the same officer who refused to be recorded while “searching” the moi moi bag is the one Mc Okrika caught with a big wrap of Indian Hemp today at the checkpoint in Etung.

Okrika also alleged that the officers are notorious for planting contraband on unsuspecting commuters and extorting them on the directives of the DPO, who was also at the checkpoint in mufti.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegbua, has reacted to the incident and vowed to investigate and discipline all officers involved.

Gospel Uebari Kinanee, the young man who was allegedly detained in prison for eighteen (18) years without trial, record, or trace after disappearing as a 14-year-old boy, has instituted a ₦10 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Federal Government of Nigeria and other relevant authorities over his prolonged detention and resulting mental deterioration.

The suit, filed before the High Court of Rivers State by the Haven360 Foundation, the organization credited with securing his release in 2025 alleges that Gospel was unlawfully abandoned within the correctional system for nearly two decades, during which he reportedly developed severe mental and psychological disorders.

According to court documents, since his release in July 2025, several letters and appeals were reportedly sent on Gospel’s behalf to the Federal Government, the Ministry of Interior, the Rivers State Government, NDDC, HYPREP, and other relevant authorities seeking urgent assistance for his psychiatric treatment, rehabilitation, and welfare. However, the requests were allegedly ignored, declined, or left without acknowledgment, leading to the institution of the present lawsuit.

The action seeks redress for the alleged violation of his constitutional rights, unlawful detention, loss of his childhood, psychological trauma, and irreversible damage to his mental health and livelihood.

The matter is scheduled to come up for hearing on the 14th of May, 2026 before Hon. Justice Okogbule Gbasam at the Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt Judicial Division.
