Today we confirmed the first two cases in Connecticut of the COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7, the same variant initially discovered in the UK.
The patients are two individuals between 15-25 who both reside in New Haven County.

Was just on a call with a well-known virologist who noted that it now appears the UK variant can fairly efficiently infect wild-type mice. Good news for scientists; bad news for the world - there will now be an animal reservoir that will be with us for all time.
Under leadership of @GovRaimondo, Rhode Island is shutting bars and gyms
But leaving schools open
Because that's what the data suggests we should do

I'm so grateful to finally share the first research article from my PhD work! A huge amount of work from all the authors went into this story as well as discussions and input from many others, thank you to everyone who helped get this project finished.

So many of us have been working so tirelessly the past few months to expand testing options. While together, we have been slowly making progress, a few @Yale hung up on what they think is red tape are now preventing us from helping our own local community.
@Yale makes such a show of trying to be involved in local community but continuously falls short. Here is an opportunity for real, immediate, effective change that is entirely feasible. Put your money where your mouth is.
#SalivaDirect has designated 3 labs to begin testing using our #opensource protocol around the country. Many more to come very soon! Schools, at-risk communities, and people all over can start to expect affordable and accessible testing! #COVID19#maskup https://t.co/PBrK4lScmD
“We don't make any money out of this,” said @YaleSPH@YaleEMD postdoctoral fellow @VogelsChantal. “We just want to make sure that, you know, testing gets scaled up and becomes more available so that we can… prevent the transmission of the coronavirus.”

NCBI GEO and SRA only accepts hdf5 and fastq files for Nanopore data. Fast5 are a type of hdf5 file but were rejected - how are #nanopore fans handling this? Is there a conversion software? Can you just change the file extension?
