Teacher presidents from across Canada met to discuss the alarming actions of governments using the Notwithstanding Clause to override constitutionally protected rights to freedom of association, collective bargaining, and strike action. This heavy handed action is undemocratic and we will fight back! Listen to watch @ETFOpresident had to say to Ontario’s Premier and Minister of Education #onted #canlab
Today @osbcucscso, @osstf and ETFO issued a joint letter calling on the Minister of Education to reaffirm a commitment to the play-based learning model in Ontario’s #onted Kindergarten program and to recognize the role of designated early childhood educators as experts. 📢📢📢 255,000 teachers and education workers unite in province-wide action this week!
On April 29, more than 255,000 #ETFO, @AEFO_ON_CA, @OECTAProv, @osbcucscso, and @osstf members will participate in a Province-wide Day of Action. This coordinated effort represents a powerful show of unity among Ontario’s teachers and education workers at a time when publicly funded education continues to face significant challenges.
Teachers and education workers will come together to visually signal their support and demand for investments in publicly funded education. Across Ontario, union members will wear red and purple as part of the Red for Ed and Power of Purple movements. This collective action will demonstrate that teachers and education workers are united in calling for improved learning and working conditions in our schools and universities.
Momentum is building. We invite families and other community allies to join us in calling for meaningful investment and a genuine commitment to student success and well-being.

Today, the Ford government announced changes to Ontario’s teacher education program that will not fully address our teacher retention and recruitment crisis.
“While reducing teacher education programs to one year may make it easier for people to enter the profession, easing some recruitment challenges, it does nothing to confront the real crisis driving educators out of Ontario’s classrooms: the chronic underfunding of the system by the Ford government,” said @etfopresident David Mastin
A recent @otffeo report highlights that teachers are leaving the profession at alarming rates, particularly within their first five years. Although thousands of qualified teachers exist, many are choosing not to work in schools because of deteriorating working conditions caused by years of provincial underfunding:
· large and increasingly complex class sizes
· rising violence in schools
· inadequate resources and staffing, leaving students with unmet needs and teachers without the tools they need to support learning and well-being
· unsustainable workloads and job instability
Added Mastin, “These are not abstract concerns; they are daily realities in classrooms across the province and the direct result of this Conservative government’s reckless decisions. Without meaningful action and investment that addresses these pressures, the retention and recruitment crisis will only intensify.”
Recommendations are outlined in OTF’s report: https://t.co/ooUwBYvvGN
Opening the 2026 bargaining conference @ETFOpresident says “The government is doing everything in its power to erode public education and privatize. With widespread underfunding we are the only thing standing against this erosion. It’s a dangerous path. But we will stand firmly with AEFO, OECTA, and OSSTF. We can win with people power and its where the fight will be won.” #onpoli

Amid the firing and suspension of 10 teachers at Bowmore school in #Toronto, ETFO presidents and local leaders from across Ontario send a united message of support and solidarity for these beloved teachers, and for the #onted schools all students deserve!
This is all our fight ✊✊ #canlab
Smaller class sizes contribute to better learning. The TDSB’s provincially-appointed supervisor has rescinded a directive by the trustees that capped grades 4 to 8 at a maximum of 32 students. I’m calling on Queen’s Park to reverse this decision and support our kids’ education.
Today is the day — Happy 50th Anniversary to The Bionic Woman!
Here is a heartfelt message from Lindsay (and a surprise guest!) to celebrate the moment.
