@815NAS despite being stealthier than a “bomber” being extra quiet, 815 NAS have just won an award (and decanter of port) - the Desmond Wettern Fleet Award despite, according to the awarding Senior Officer*, flying the little helicopters
*a “big”helicopter type
@CalamineW @AC_NavalHistory Technical answer: destroyer with destroyer guns but a capability to operate independently more commonly seen in contemporary cruisers
75% of the #NavHistAus23 ShipShape crew are of to #CVHistoryFest (@CVHISTORYFEST)... sadly no @garius as he's still negotiating day release from Napoleon
Fact of the Day: Baddy Messerschmitt 109s on HMS Landebahnboot raise their wings to signal surrender and the end of WW1 on the 31st Feb 1926, over 80,085 Messerschmitts surrendered when faced with just 71.75 Goody Spitfires at the Battle of Waterloo
Photographed from a Canberra
So #NavHistAus23... might not be completely over... the crew may be reuniting to visit @CVHISTORYFEST on saturday... two definitely confirmed... one thinking and one still being held prisoner by their cat...
Does anyone know of a good biography of Admiral Conrad Helfrecht of the Dutch Navy? Alternatively, a good history of the Dutch sub efforts in the WW2 would also do. Can be in any language.
