Three weeks after Tate Schaefer was diagnosed with the cancer that he’d ultimately die fighting, Fran McCaffery’s team was wearing shirts for him.
Fran’s support of kids in the middle of unthinkable battles is such a massive part of his legacy at Iowa.
Been fortunate to coach a lot of kids & every new season brings an excitement with it as I get the opportunity to be a part of more journeys. But will never forget the way Tate injected so much love, passion and joy in our program. 💙 ya Tate & your #35 will remain special 4ever!
Tonight we played for pediatric cancer awareness. This one was for you Tate. I will forever honor your memory and share your amazing story to all that will listen. Thanks for always reminding me to be #TaterTough ❤️🖤
What a great weekend!! Cinnamon rolls on Friday, Senior Athlete Recognition on Saturday, and Commencement today. Such a great celebration of three strong leaders that have made LCWBB a better program! 💙🤍

Blessed to have this group of people in our lives. We all walk a journey of love and grief together. Our boys are preparing the best celebration for all of us, but until then we hold each other up through moments like these ❤️💪🏻⚡️💜#TaterTough#LetsGo#WTD#NobodyBetter#OS14
Some things are bigger than basketball. Great to see @Patrickmccaff22 back on the court today. Very fitting that today was the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers game.
The latest editions to @ABlythe63’s tremendous #MyCauseMyCleats collection in memory of Tate Schaefer.
#TaterTough forever.
