@__paleologo Same experience, tried to solve a research problem that I've been working on for a few months and nothing useful other than rediscovering, restating, overstating and so on.
But LLMs are still useful.
Looking back it’s obvious that this is a symptom of non-doers being in charge. People who don’t understand that you don’t need a why and even if you have one it’s probably a figment of your imagination
re: the US uni admissions essay. it really strikes me on how at every single level of US academia you’re expected to curate a “narrative”. it’s not enough u want to research this strain of fungi. you need to have some weird community connection to it.
Two related, complementary sayings that are on my mind all the time:
Buffett: "If you get a few big things right, you can afford to get many small things wrong."
Jobs: "The most important decisions you make are not the things you do, but the things you decide not to do."

One problem with an ethnic name people are unfamiliar with is that at a cafe you’re never quite sure if they’re calling for you or not. Attempts have enough variance for you to jump every time.
Underrated aspect of the AI backlash Hank green is facing is most people's understanding of AI is limited by how dogshit Gemini is and Google's insistence on using it for every search. Of course they think it hallucinates everything and merely summarizes reddit.
@__paleologo I think they committed to a bit, and if they abandoned it they'd look silly, perhaps even admitting to be disingenuous. So they're going all in. They did this to themselves
@sean_a_mcclure@jon_stewartmill Is it not interesting that many who support capitalism deny evolution and many who accept evolution want to do away with capitalism?
