As this monster, Netanyahu, stood before the UN General Assembly, my first thought was not to congratulate the delegations that walked out. It was to ask: how on earth was the butcher of Gaza given that podium in the first place?

He bears responsibility for the slaughter of tens of thousands of women and children. Children dismembered. Women and children mutilated. Their bodies burned. Their families starved. Their homes, schools and hospitals reduced to rubble. An entire people subjected to suffering, indignity and relentless destruction.

This is a monster who belongs in the depths of hell. His place is in the dock in The Hague, answering for the atrocities inflicted on the Palestinian people.

Shame on every government that has shielded him from accountability, welcomed him or opened its airspace to him. Giving him that podium is an insult to his victims and a stain on the conscience of humanity.

At the UN General Assembly, Trump, in very casual language, talks about annihilating another country. The room stays quiet. No collective protest. No formal objection.

And this goes far beyond rhetoric.

The US *has* bombed Iran, in clear violation of international law.

The US *has* kidnapped Venezuela's head of state and is in the process of looting the country's natural resources, in clear violation of international law.

The US *has* tightened its blockade on Cuba, in clear violation of international law.

Then there is, of course, the genocide in Gaza, for which the US has provided unconditional support.

After World War II, the US was one of the primary architects of a system meant to encourage global cooperation. But the US has consistently broken that system's rules to advance its imperial interests.

The system has therefore lost all its legitimacy.
