What is Data Science?
#DataScience is about data gathering, analysis and decision-making.
Data Science is about finding patterns in data, through analysis, and make future predictions.
Most people think AI runs on GPUs.
That's like saying the internet runs on browsers.
Modern AI is powered by an entire ecosystem of processors:
🧠 CPU → Coordinates everything
⚡ GPU → Trains massive models
🔷 TPU → Accelerates tensor operations
📱 NPU → Brings AI to phones & laptops
🚀 LPU → Delivers ultra-fast LLM responses
🌐 DPU → Handles networking, security & data movement
The interesting part?
Every AI breakthrough depends on ALL of them working together.
A trillion-parameter model is useless if:
Data can't reach it fast enough
• Inference is too expensive
• Edge devices can't run it
• Infrastructure can't scale
The next AI race won't be won by the best model.
It'll be won by whoever builds the best compute stack.
Models get the headlines.
Chips run the world.

At IIT Madras, we believe awareness is the first step toward breaking free from nicotine and tobacco addiction.
This World No Tobacco Day, under the theme “Unmasking the appeal – countering nicotine and tobacco addiction,” we reaffirm our commitment to building a healthier, tobacco-free campus and society.
Behind the marketing and momentary appeal lies a serious threat to individual health, families, communities, and public well-being. By creating awareness, encouraging informed choices, and supporting those who wish to quit, we can help unmask the realities of tobacco and nicotine dependence.
Every breath matters. Every life matters.
Let us choose health, resilience, and a future free from addiction. Together, we can create a tobacco-free world.

There’s a moment in Tamil Nadu’s early mornings that most of the world never sees. When palm climbers are already halfway up towering trees, collecting something that can’t wait till sunrise fully breaks.
That’s Padhaneer, also called Neera, or palm nectar. A sweet, translucent sap tapped from palmyra or coconut palms before sunrise, because time is the difference between a nourishing drink and natural fermentation.
Within a few hours, it begins turning into toddy on its own, which is why freshness isn’t just preferred here, it’s everything.
This isn’t just a “summer drink.” It’s part of a larger ecosystem, used fresh as a cooling beverage, sometimes processed into jaggery or syrup, and long valued in rural diets for its natural sugars, minerals, and electrolytes.
In a world full of bottled “energy drinks,” Padhaneer still survives. Quietly. Honestly. Naturally.

Researchers from IIT Madras and IISc Bengaluru have solved a chemistry puzzle that remained unanswered for over 70 years.
As reported in The Indian Express, the team led by Prof. Sundargopal Ghosh and Stutee Mohapatra from the Department of Chemistry, IIT Madras, along with Prof. Eluvathingal Jemmis from IISc Bengaluru, has synthesised a carbon-free molecule that mimics the iconic ‘sandwich’ structure of ferrocene.
Using osmium and boron-based rings instead of carbon, the breakthrough marks the first stable carbon-free version of the molecule — something scientists worldwide had long attempted to achieve.
Published in the prestigious journal Science (https://t.co/zqkL1CSqz6), the discovery could open new pathways for designing advanced materials with unique chemical and structural properties.

In many Indian villages, wells dry up even before summer hits.
Electricity is unreliable.
But crops? They are still watered using methods that waste enormous amounts of groundwater every single day.
But a 16-year-old from Gujarat thought differently.
Ayan Patel's SaurSinchAI is a solar-powered, AI-enabled irrigation rover that checks soil moisture, nutrients, and pH levels in real time, then gives crops only the water they actually need.
The impact has been massive:
> Up to 70% water savings
> Crop yields increased by up to 30%
> 1,800+ soil tests conducted
> 3,300+ farmers engaged
> 240 women entrepreneurs empowered
But what makes this story powerful is where the innovation began.
It started under neem trees in North Gujarat, where farmers gathered in local “Khedut Sabha” circles to openly discuss the problems they were facing.
Ayan listened first.
Then built.
And maybe that’s what makes this feel so important.
Because some of India’s most meaningful innovations are created by people who grew up living inside the problem.
