If any babu or officer gets caught doing mischief, they are immediately transferred to some rural area or departments like Archives or Housing etc.

Now I don't understand why do they do that.

Don't people from remote areas pay the same taxes as others? Why do they deserve officers which are delinquent or poor?

Similarly, Housing is an important department for any govt. And govt Housing is so bad, that they are the benchmark for bad Housing. People make memes on Govt Housing. So why does that department always get bad Apples? Or is the dept bad because of these Apples?

And state archives is also a very critical post. It's like a library where all the records of state are stored. They deserve the best librarians for care and maintainance. But whom Do they get? Some disgruntled officer who is there for time pass.

I think the govt should stop the practice of these punishment transfers.

You are not punishing The Babu. You are actually punishing the people.

Whenever I post about Indian babudom and their administrative capabilities, I usually get a lot of adverse reactions, accusations and a lot of justification on their skills and talent.

So I wondered, if there was a sector, where we could compare companies run by babus and those run by professionals, over a period of time, side by side and compare the results.

Now Fortunately for us, there is one. The dairy co-operatives.

When Lal Bahadur Shastri, decided to replicate the Amul model across India, most of the state dairy co-operatives were captured by the great Indian babudom. Except one.

The OG of dairy Co operatives, The Gujarat Co-operartive milk Marketing federation or GCMMF. You usually call it Amul.

Now, here are the annual turnovers of the state co-operatives, run by babus.

Nandhini (Karnataka) Turnover - Rs 14,018 Cr
Aavin tunover (Tamil Nadu) -Rs 6500 Cr
Verka Punjab (Punjab) - Rs 4462 Cr
Milma Turnover (Kerala) - Rs 4300 Cr
Vijaya (Andhra) Dairy - Rs 2000 Cr
Orissa Dairy - Rs 700 Cr
Sudha Dairy (Bihar) - Rs 176 Cr

Total Turnover - Rs 32,156 Cr

And the turnover of the state Co-operative, which is run completely by professionals, professionally - Rs 72,000 Cr

The turnover of the professionally run co-operative is TWICE that of the top 7 babu run state dairy Co-operatives Put together.

If this ever was a court case, this is point where the defence will rest.

Indian elections are uncertain, but I think the results for the 2024 polls are more or less done

I think, we will witness a govt with the highest majority since 1984

And this means an amazing opportunity

A 'woke' American woman of Indian origin is the best brown sepoy.

She will go to any length to blend in with American liberals. She will call herself South Asian (not Indian), a woman of color, will diss Indians, and call Gazans her people. She will call the Indian state an oppressor and call for Kashmir liberation, insult Hinduism, and try her best to separate herself from her Indian roots.

What can we do? Just one thing. Whenever someone of Indian origin achieves something abroad, don't start clapping and identifying yourself with them. Instead, wait. Let them show affiliation first. Let them show if they are proud of their roots. Only then cheer for them. Otherwise, you'll be up for a big disappointment.

Just saw a BBC interview where Raghuram Rajan says India became a democracy too early post independence, which made it difficult for us to build progress enabling things like Dams, Factories etc.

So what he essentially meant was, if India could have been dictatorship for sometime after independence, We could have progressed much faster.

The thing is, India was kind of a dictatorship till the 80s.

Think about it, you had Nehru and then his daughter Indira, being unquestioned supremos of their party and the govt. They were rulers first, elected representatives much later.

They never tolerated opposing viewpoints, either within party or govt. They roughshod over alternate voices and implemented personal ideas in the name of policy, without any discussion or debate.

Imagine an Indian PM gifting Indian sovereign territory to other countries as if was a personal fief And They could do what they want with it?

Difficult right? Indira Gandhi actually did that.

They banned books and movies which they thought Portrayed them badly.

They shut down voices which differed from theirs. They arrested authors and Journos.

They dismissed state govts at their whims and fancies. Indira Even imposed An actual emergency and put people in Jail.

Like megalomaniac dictators They even conferred the country's highest award on themselves.

So Rajan sir, india Was a quasi dictatorship, for almost 40 years after independence.

The problem is. We did Diddly squat with it.

Now whose fault is that?
