We should all start spending more of our online time in privately owned communities instead of on social media platforms.
This is my ongoing list of reasons to do this.
@FrankMcG@HackingLZ@nisius It really is a weird cultural fixation. And as someone with a lot of food issues, I also wish there were more options for social things to do than eat or drink.
@FrankMcG@HackingLZ@nisius I always felt like I was shamed as a "Teetotaler" because I grew up going to a church school, but I never judged anyone for having their beer and burger. I just never had any interest in it. Turns out even if I did, it'd be horrible for my IBS so I have two reasons not to drink.
@FrankMcG@realDonaldTrump I know a lot of folks who hate followed him to counter argue in the comments, but I don't get it. The only thing a narcissist hates is being ignored. Anything else fuels them, even hate. He should be flushed down the drain of irrelevance like all the other forgettables.
@FrankMcG I cut back significantly on my notifications because 90% of the time it wasn't significant. I find notifications a bit like newsletters. Clutter in my mental inbox. I've become a lot more intentional about what I seek out and cull the rest to decrease alert fatigue.
Your mind and mental health are a more important front in the fight against fascism than you think. We donβt have complete control over our feelings of fear and despair, but we have to remember that fear and despair for targeted communities are part of the point. /1
@jesstheunstill Oh God, don't remind me. I maybe vaguely remember coming across it in the late 90s/early 00s, but I definitely came across it a few years ago when I started questioning again. Let's just say that I'm glad I trusted my intuition and ended up finding healthier resources.
Washington DC has passed the Human Rights Sanctuary Act!
This will prevent extradition to states that ban gender affirming care or abortion.
People can flee states like Texas if they are under investigation to DC!
No cops, jails, personnel, paperwork can be used to extradite.
The biggest bummer about the decline of Amazon, the rise of surveillance capitalism, the polarization or social media, predatory app stores, is that for a while it felt like nerds were making the world a better place. Now the most successful tech companies are making it worse
@DVanillannie @fayemikah I have a cousin who named their daughter Anna Mae. They are from rural Appalachia and have no idea what anime is, it's just a middle name that runs in their family.
@matt_crognale@FrankMcG I was just thinking the same thing. Some of the big corps are no joke. Entire departments of players dedicated to IT, member logistics, recruiting, diplomacy. Not to mention the actual in-game fleet/wing commanders. It's a 1/16 scale model of meatspace.
