Dr. Matt Herman from our Geology Department was in the @KGETnews studio yesterday to talk about the recent 8.8 magnitude earthquake near Russia. The earthquake is the largest since the 2011 Japan earthquake. https://t.co/a8YcEt8s79
In case you missed it live, here's Dr. Matthew Herman on KGET's 17 News at Noon earlier this afternoon talking about the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the Mendocino fracture zone yesterday.

I am tired of Bakersfieldians talking about this place as bigger than cities like New Orleans, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, or Tampa. Use metropolitan area! It is not that hard! https://t.co/RzXHlNEsXB
I cannot be the first person to notice the irony of calling Milton manmade when many of those same people deny the effect humans actually have on ocean temperatures and thus hurricanes…
@MinSeongSeo Note that the red events span ~4 km, which is about the expected rupture length for a 5.2. So this could reflect the size of the earthquake rupture as much as anything else. But an interesting observation!
@MinSeongSeo I felt the June event in my office in Bakersfield, but missed this one out of town for a meeting. It got my family all freaked out tonight though!
@clairekiechel I just finished the episode and saw your name in the credits. I turned to my wife and said I think I know that writer from college. Awesome job! My favorite episode of the season so far!
I do not think I will ever understand how blackouts work. I was under the impression ESPN was always a national broadcast, so I would be able to watch Clips-Lakers. Alas, it is blacked out. Infuriating.
Day 1 of using AirPods: love them except for device handoff. That is a terrible terrible terrible feature! Practically speaking it means I have not actually listened to anything on my AirPods all day!
