BREAKING: Margin trades in China’s stocks hit a record 2.28 trillion Yuan on Monday.

This surpasses the previous high of 2.27 trillion Yuan in 2015.

As a result, leveraged purchases as a share of total market cap rose to ~2.2%.

Additionally, new stock accounts opened by retail investors surged +71% YoY in July.

At the same time, the number and total assets of newly registered hedge funds, mostly focused on equities, reached their highest level this year.

Chinese investors are borrowing a record amount of cash to buy stocks.
