It gives us timelines for when languages split.

Proto Indo-European is dated to around 6120 BCE (median date).

By around 4140 BCE, its daughter languages were already distinct.

The Indo-Iranian (Vedic & Avesta parent) split is early, and Indo-Aryan (Vedic Group of languages) separates from Iranic around 3520 BCE.🔥

But this model is geographically blind. It tells us when, not where.

Now bring in independent evidence.

The Ṛgveda, dated roughly 3300 to 1900 BCE, preserves a consistent geography of North-West India.

The Avestan corpus reflects closely related traditions to the northwest.

The Itihāsas and Purāṇas preserve memories of migrations and conflicts in the same region.🔥
