@familytrees4@Jayde8700 How much more I can man up? I am raising a family of five. I work really hard, I pay my exorbitant taxes. I volunteer. Not much more to man up to.
Ontario isn't the only province doing this. Also. Sure, so who is so happy to buy those products? Where have the new buyers come from? They haven't. Nobody is making up the 80 percent drop in spirit and wine sales. Europe, no. Mexico, no. And tourism? Who is replacing the commune of tourism that has dropped? Nobody. Europe, definitely not. People aren't really wanting to travel to the US. The ones who did, were alienated. It doesn't stop me from travelling there, but I do not seem to be the norm.
@Oliver_Trpcic@realpeteyb123 Canada is failing, not just Ontario. We have been lead by morons for over a decade. I am under no illusion.
But it doesn't change the facts of how much Canada currently purchases from the US
Other demand hasn't been found. Layoffs are occurring in those sectors. I am not claiming outsized influence, but people claiming or minimizing our purchases and business support of the US economy is significant. We buy more than many G7 economies combined. But it's just a blip right......yah
It doesn't matter what you are. It
makes your original statement even more stupid. To suggest Canada has little impact is silly. Any onshorimg attempts will take a very long time to come to fruition.
I provided factual numbers, and where we stand in purchasing of US goods. To suggest that it isn't impactful is delusion.
In 2024, Canada accounted for 36 percent of ALL US wine exports, and Ontario alone used to be a 1 billion dollar purchaser of spirits. Second quarter of 2025 saw an almost 80 percent drop.
Before 2025, Canada accounted for nearly 45 percent of ALL US alcohol exports. Ask your spirit and wine producers if that doesn't have an impact.
Educate yourself. I am not talking about exports, but purchases from the US by Canada. Approximately 225 billion in goods purchased by Canada from the US in 2025. I was wrong about it being 13 states that count on Canada as their largest purchaser of goods. In fact, it is 30 states that rely on Canada as their largest export business. Now throw in Tourism. Historically, no other country comes close to tourism dollars spent in the US. It happens to be the number one industry for many of states, primarily supported by Canadians. Also, the energy you buy from Canada comes at a massive discount that you then resell at a profit. On a per capita, nobody comes close to Canada on supporting US business.
Take energy out, and the US has sizeable trade surplus with Canada. So stop believing everything you hear and the "we need nothing from Canada" bulkshit. No other country has been a better business partner.
Ross, I agree with much of what you are saying. You also underestimate the investments that Canada has made for shared defense, and significant financial commitments expressed for the Golden Dome. How many wars has Canada assisted the US in, whether legitimate or not? We want to help and want to continue to be the best neighbours as we have exhibited throughout history. But, we are also asked to continue eating shit, and then like it? Be real
@ztisdale Wants Canada to thrive by making efforts to take our businesses and manufacturing away from us. Don’t get me wrong, Liberal governments got us here, but nothing he has exhibited screams “Canada, thrive”
@Dennismolin11 If your evaluation is true, then the US wouldn't have been in the trade relationship with China that it is now trying to correct. Safeguards etc have failed for the US. This is now reactionary because the safeguards you speak of weren't effective.
