Cameroonian mechanic Kome Melchizedek Kongnyuy left Yaoundé in 2017 to attend his sister’s wedding. He never returned.

Arrested on December 5, 2017, at the start of the Anglophone crisis, Kome has now spent nearly nine years in prison without judgment. Information available to MMI News indicates he was arrested because authorities were looking for another person whose names were similar to his.

Nearly nine years later, he has not been convicted. He has not had a fair and speedy trial. His health has reportedly worsened in prison.

Kome’s case highlights a bigger national tragedy: thousands of Cameroonians are trapped in overcrowded and unhealthy prisons, many of them still waiting for justice.

If the state has evidence against him, it should prove it in court. If not, he should be released.

This is not justice. This is punishment without trial.

i hate how social media makes people forget that life has stages. it's normal to be broke, to have broke friends or partners and yes it's even normal to be unemployed at times. these are phases we all go through.

some people are lucky enough to find good jobs at a young age and afford a certain lifestyle. others take longer and that's perfectly okay. we need to stop comparing ourselves and start accepting our journey. i just want all of us to be at peace with where we are in life while still working and striving for better.
