@ADiMarco25@DailyFaceoff Any insight as to why the Flyers didn’t just go to the max ($20.8m) with Carlsson? I’m sure they didn’t want too high of an AAV on their books, but 18m is already pretty high. in for a penny in for a pound 🤷
@SuitableAlias Now the Carlsson deal will still likely put ANA in the negative on operating income if they match. But the financials were def harder for NSH to match IMO. I wrote about it a bit here https://t.co/Q0vRD821fx
@SuitableAlias In AAV terms, yes. But the league was completely different from a valuation standpoint then.
NSH value in 2011 = $163m
Weber Salary in first 365 days = $27m (16.5% of NSH Value)
ANA value in 2025 = $1.4b
Carlsson salary in first 365 days = $38.9m (3% of ANA Value)
@ADiMarco25 If this is something you are actually hearing, the thought process is probably “trade michkov for another high draft pick that has regressed since their draft year” the problem is that 1) michkov was higher rated his draft year, 2) michkov has regressed, in part, due to usage
@michaelkinky@jasonmyrt The salary can’t exceed $20.8m, there’s no expressed limit on AAV. Also, I think the AAV for the purposes of calculating draft pick compensation is different then the standard AAV you know of
@PuckPedia Ok I see, that’s right. CBA 10.3(h) “Upon receipt of either a copy of such
Offer Sheet … the League shall encumber [the draft picks] in reserve for the Prior Club.”
@SuitableAlias Wait that’s a great point, maybe Danny was playing 4D chess with that step back comment?? This is the same guy that said they were likely done making moves
@JeanFrancoisCBA@PuckPedia Ok yeah got it, this made it click for me. Thanks! And I think it's section 11.11 of the CBA that is essentially saying what you've said. Since the contract is "in effect" during the term of the CBA, this CBA applies to all years of the contract.
@AndrewKnollNHL Right. I'm comparing league tendencies to Verbeek's practices, which are also not standard in the way he avoids bonuses like the plague. This would be a pain for anyone but for someone like Verbeek maybe more so.
@JeanFrancoisCBA@PuckPedia Yes in 2031 Carlsson will be paid a base salary = whatever the minimum will be. It usually goes up YoY but we dont know if it will be 1M, 500k, 1.5M, etc. In the contract Carlsson signed today, there is no rule in the CBA saying "you can't set the base salary in 2031 to $0"
