If the SEC does pass a Scope 1+2 reporting requirement — hey, that's better than nothing. But without Scope 3, it would be easy to get emissions 'off your books.' You could shift those high-carbon activities to 3rd-party private companies.
Today the @SECGov rules on their climate disclosure policy. Sounds like Scope 3 won't be included (too bad!). I'm sympathetic to the idea that downstream Scope 3 should be treated differently, as forecasts != performance. But IMHO Scope 3 upstream should be included.
@Haje One of the best (and free!) things large companies can do here is to require / encourage their suppliers to set a science based target / track emissions. That would massively expand engagement amongst startups.
@Haje Although to be fair to startup founders — there's not yet a good business case here. The founders' mentality is "climate is a champagne problem, we'll tackle that after we have product-market-fit." This won't change until sustainability is like SOC 2 — a cost of business.
@Haje Amen! We're pivoting because of this — we created Bend (corporate cards with embedded free carbon accounting) to make it easier for startups to engage here, but there's ~no market pull amongst startups and SMBs. We're pushing up-market for this reason (https://t.co/ek8rW4UtBs)
We're going to be launching a new free tool tomorrow, Bend Scorecard (https://t.co/wRc1Cu8Ss4)
Answer three questions, and we'll estimate your company's emissions, leveraging a leading economic climate model with 4m+ data points. See how your company stacks up 🚀 #NYClimateWeek
@mattsornson I think we have a pretty cool Clearbit API use case for helping companies measure their emissions / climate impact using NAICs code, but we're not an easy fit with your enterprise API tiers. Would you be up for a quick chat? We're a YC-backed startup.
We're happy to share that Bend is launching on Product Hunt today! 🚀

I'm hoping that Bard / LLM / ChatGPT quality is coming to @madebygoogle smart speakers. We use smart speakers at home, but Assistant is brittle, frequently misinterprets requests, and has latency issues. I'd happily pay for something more expressive and reliable.
