When the highest executive calls for breaking election law, it’s not just political theatre—it’s a stress test for the system. CMEV urges swift action to restore public faith ahead of #LGE2025. Silence periods exist for a reason. (3/3)
CMEVs complaint: https://t.co/Lkm2JiNJev
The Prime Minister’s public call to defy campaign silence rules isn’t just a regulatory breach—it undermines the very foundation of electoral fairness. With the statement caught on video and aired nationally, will accountability follow? (2/3)
On May 3rd, just hours before the silence period began, PM Harini Amarasuriya urged supporters to continue campaigning for NPP candidates—directly violating election regulations. CMEV has filed an official complaint. (1/3)
@yohes1 I suppose it’s where we draw the line for the salutes. Murder, drug-dealing, fraud, corruption, nepotism, vote-selling, influence-peddling, etc. Can’t we stop the salutes and have more arrests of wrong-doers, regardless of their jobs?
This may be the theory but not really the practice. Imagine the police saluting a regular member of the public for representing the citizenry of this country? MPs are saluted (and treated differently) for the real political power they hold. One country but not really one law.
@munza14@nimilamalee@nkashokbharan Perhaps one could also ask about protocols for arresting MPs, as that seems quite a frequent occurrence too. I hope it’s the same as for us common law-breakers.
I listened to a lot of speech in the budget 2022 debate. But this is the ugliest part I have ever heard of, SLPP MP Tissakuttiarachchi's verbally sexual harassment of a female MP in Parliament. #Lka
Was that a McDonalds ? Why LKA Twitter so coy about naming a restaurant? Businesses and politicians get privacy whilst it’s deemed in the public interest to share details of private lives…
Update - two persons have been hospitalized with minor injuries after an explosion and a fire 🔥 believed due to a gas leak reported early this morning at a restaurant in Racecourse building in Colombo. Fire doused - Police #LKA#SriLanka@saksivarnan
Parliamentary felicitation of a singer for having a hit song… in the midst of a pandemic and economic crisis where we continue do little for our poorest citizens, especially women?
Sounds the perfect tone to reflect the state of our nation and its governance. @ParliamentLK
Parliament not elected & funded 2 do what Event Mngmt Co. do. Don't need women quota 4 this. Why not felicitate Dr.Vajira Chitrasena & Linguist Late Indra Dassanayake then for being awarded Padma Shri, highest Indian State award? @Dr_HariniA #lka https://t.co/V8rFDagH8Y
1/As govt official is it ok for you to state an act is illegal when it isn’t & warn person not to engage in it? Courtesy & legality are very diff. Illegal acts carry legal consequences, while discourteous acts don’t. Imp for govt officials to know diff as decisions affect public.
Where is Malcolm Kurakan Ranjit with the appointment of Gnanasera to define One Country One law ?
Not to forget what PCol report on #EasterAttack recommended banning Gnanasera's BBS
So, Sri Lanka’s judiciary will have to implement laws that are shaped by a man who was convicted of contempt of court (and who’s pardon was a legal example of the same).
Former Northern Governor P. S. M. Charles to appoint the member of Elections Commission to fill the vacancy created after resignation of Jeevan Thyagarajah #lka#SriLanka
The Attorney General informs Court that the charges against Former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda in relation to the abduction and disappearance of 11 youth during 2008 and 2009 will not be continued.

Now we have a good measure of the "independence" of the members of the Election Commission. Or is it the "independence" of the Governor?
Jeevan Thiyagarajah nominated as Northern Province Governor https://t.co/iy3OtaAKJ0
Minister allegedly threatening persons in prison detained under #PTA & subjecting them to degrading treatment.
Persons detained under #PTA are detained in an internal part of Anuradhapura prison, so did Minister specifically seek them out?
Extremely serious allegations.
